I think you'll find its all relevant.
And FYI. the 92 meters are what i would class as a smart meter; ability to record AI ( active import kw ), AE (active export ), KVah, KVarh with the ability of commication over gsm, csd, PSTN or PAKNET.
We have older 88 meters which have the same ability except export.
They are all what would be classed as RCAMR rather than data loggers, or the ability to be read by someone in the street. which are NCAMR meters
In regards to having no signal, (im guessing you arent even supplied a gsm/gprs signal tester?) dependant on the meter / modem configuration. certain meters wont communicate reliably for Remote data collection with less than 40% signal strength over the csd network.
Some meters / modems will happily communicate over 10% signal.Working within the gas and electric industry since 2008'0 -
The fitter will carry at least 3 different sims from different networks and test them to see which has got the strongest signal for the area.
You'd hope so.
Seems to be a few Mops & contractors who send their engineers with meters with a pre-installed sim which is silly as sometimes a sim can be on a really strong network but cant actually communicate.. which is pointless as they dont carry spare sims!
A few others are fitting roaming sims which switch to which ever is best network or run via IP address which everyone hopefully moves to.
Only real networks in my experience that work are Orange / o2 / Vodafone. For some reason t-mobile ( even though they share infrastructure with Orange, don't seem to work ) & 3 network I've never came across anyone using.
One really weird thing I've came across is smart meters being fitted to phone masts, Imserv did this for orange and sometimes orange sim cards wouldn't even work in the meters, must be due to interference.Working within the gas and electric industry since 2008'0 -

You Know Very Little.
Can you complete an LV CT Verification?
Lemme guess your a g4s/enterprise/onstream/bglobal/fu/faros/bgsm installer by any chance.
The time I've been working within the industry means nothing. as an office staff I've been out and done 1ph, 3ph whole current installs, LV CT 3ph cop5 install, various comms faults and off see a COP 2 HV CT install in feb.
I'm hardly trying to say i know everything, but mate seriously you cant even put a decent point against stuff I've rather than try and slag how long I've been working in the industry..Working within the gas and electric industry since 2008'0 -

Charles Hendry, the energy minister, said: “We believe people will benefit from having smart meters. But we will not make them obligatory.”
