Just out of interest (it's probably been asked a hundred times before but I only stumbled across this thread as the photo question interested me), is there any value in entering these competitions where you have to pay £1 (or similar) each time? Do people who do this regularly win more than it costs them?

i've won an ipad for a £1.50 text, a websurfer for a 50p call,
a hoover for a £1.00 call,
& had many other prizes worth well more than the text call
