Ebay - 10% final fee......

I haven't sold anything for a good while now and just had a quick look at the latest fees - I was shocked to see it's now 10% of final selling price for almost everything... or have I got that wrong?

When did this change? I could have sworn it was less than that when I last sold some stuff.

I can't remember a time when it was anything less.

Personally I don't think it's that bad. Before eBay I would have just given my stuff away!

They reduced the front end/listing fees and then increased the final value fees at least a couple of years ago now, fairly sure it was never below 5%.

If you're using Buy it Now listings, there was a change mid/late last year which brought in huge increases for them.

I can't remember ~exactly~ what the changes were, but I know that my FVFs for BIN listings almost doubled...

Don't forget if you take payment by paypal, and for most things you have to, there is another set of fees.

Which is why for expensive items it'd not uncommon to do a deal face-to-face once you've seen the listing...just saying.

Not uncommon? Maybe I just deal with better buyers and sellers then that other people.

I have rarely been asked to deal off ebay, maybe once in a few thousand items, my listings and feedback obviously look honest.

It isn't great, but does give you what you pay for....a captive audience.

I have only been asked for repeat custom for business off ebay etc....which does make sense.

I've had that as well especially on collectables. I'll sell a piece of something or other and when buyer gets it they ask me to look out for X or Y as they need to complete a collection. I still even have European and an Australian buyer who leave a shopping list type of thing with me, I attend a lot of auctions so if I see what they want, I buy it and take a finders fee and ship it out to them.

If you list on a free listing weekend, such as this one, you have a cost free, risk free opportunity to list your unwanted items, so all it will cost to sell each item is 10% of the final price.

The bottom line is that receiving 90% of the ebay market price is the most lucrative way of selling many types of items ... and unlike a bootsale, you don't have to get up at silly-o'clock and haggle face-to-face with aggressive desperados. :)
