Boiler question.... re: Flame and Pump
Comments
-
cant even see the flame on my combi (Ferroli)
but i'm glad i have one now.Much cheaper than my old rubbish baxi back boiler  makes a big difference when you have proper control over water and heating.Water is at 48 degrees so is hot enough to wash and do dishes with.heating is at 68 degrees and all my rads are piping hot.
I have 9 and 6 are doubles.thing that i have noticed is the heating symbol shows heat when the heatings on,but now and then the lines coming off the rads go off?and for a good while to then come back on(around 10 mins or more) any brain boxes know why????0 -
That is not a theory, but manufacturers' specification.
Total nonsense. A biflow trv can be fitted on flow or return side, as can the lockshield. The lockshield will regulate the flow through the rad, AND the heat output. Stating that balancing does not influence the output, shows a fundamental lack of understanding.
Although a proper balance is important for the correct working of the system, it is unlikely to influence the amount of time that the boiler is lit.
:rotfl:So you obviously havnt had many plans to deal with to understand why M&E architects only ever have the L/S on the return :rotfl:
There is only one way to balance a system and that is to have the valves in the right place and to balance the system the correct way as over closing of a L/S on the flow WILL affect the output of the radiator
The other reason is so that the boiler return is satisfied quicker so that it doesnt waste energy :T:rotfl:
Do you know the correct way to do it
Jeez I hope you never get a commercial qualification or there will be lots of office folk freezing :TSignature removed0 -

A restriction on the flow in a set circuit reduces the flow by in that circuit by x, no matter where it is. Did you think the hot water rushes into the rad through the full bore, and then suddenly slows down at the ls? What did you do when you worked in the trade, lift the floorboards?
:rotfl:Yes I did actually in 4 of my 5 years as an apprentice, and for quite a while after that as we used to install most pipework where it couldnt be seen not the quickest and easiest route for the installer using multiple unsightly drop for the customer to see, and as for slowing down at the LS, restricting the flow rate through the rad is exactly what a LS does and is there for :rotfl:
This was also before the invention of pump primary system, s & y plans, when heating and HW was by gravity, and mostly one pipe systems and had to be installed right or it wouldnt work, so we had to know the right way to balance a system and they certainly wouldnt work with valves incorrectly positioned :rotfl:
:Tmaybe you would like to get into shoe, slipper or lift and lay valves, double regulating Vvs, diverting and mixing applications, MT and CT circuits and the benefits and restriction as to where they should be used
This is a bit off post but going back to OP who has a large system with 14 rads, which probably means multiple drop from a pump primary system, in which case as heat naturally wants to rise and water will ALWAYS flow the easiest route, correct valve positioning and balancing of the upper floor radiators is essential to ensure the heated water flows to the lower floor circuits, or it will possibly be short circuiting round the upper floors with little being forced round the lower floor.
To the OP check the 2 pipes that drop to the lower floors with the TRV's open to see that both pipes are hot thoughout their length?
If they are not the balancing is incorrect!Signature removed0 -

I bet you are on of those antiques that claim a Morris Minor was better than a Lexus, because you could start it with a crank if the battery was flat.
Tip for you: you can add lots of exclamation marks to the numerous smileys in an attempt to make your ramblings more convincing.0 -
Oh dear, typical old boy stuck in the past, no wonder you have no idea how a modern system works. The situation you describe has not been the norm for over 50 years, things have moved on you know.

Firstly my apologies to the OP, who was looking for advice and opinion as to the fault she is experiencing, for the way this has gone off post as some individuals cannot understand that their opinion is not ALWAYS right, that will be determined when the fault is completely rectified, and my input is only based on background and experience not just of the fault but also the current standard of knowledge that exist in the industry.
It is sad that some people have to resort to sarcastic irrelevent jibes and is indicative of the nature of that person and their arrogance;)
:)Now then MR Ben (you must be related) you see your inane comments, here and elsewhere, do not concern me as I am well able to take all you can dish out, and GIVE BACK  after many years of experience of educated idiot
I was educated to use grammer and I JUST LUV THEM SMILEYS, especially when someone takes exception  or exhibits the arrogance and ageist attitude that you do
;)You see with age comes experience, of what was and what is, but some things never change in GOOD WORKING PRACTICESthings have moved on, some for the good some not so good, and up until a point recently I was fully up to speed with all matters of the trade, and other trades, as in a position of Works Services Manager for a contract of over 30,000 properties I had to deal with and put right the defects created by many such as you, and I don't mean just from behind a desk
It is people with the misguided ineffectual knowledge you exhibit that cause the many expensive defective practises that cost people a lot of money :T
I must also assume that as you are able to post at such a time that you have, your services are not in great demand or you dont pay much attention to your business activities
Finally should anyone object to my defence of my opinion, which as a member of a democratic nation I reserve that right, I would request that they please consider the exact location of where personal attacks and facile comment come from initially before considering their action!;);););););););););););););););););););););););) LUV THEM SMILEYS
