O2 getting the simple info wrong!

I rang O2 about 3 weeks ago and asked when I would be able to upgrade and was told "You last upgraded on 8th March 2006, so you can upgrade on 8th February".

I left it a week and rang again in the hope they might offer me an upgrade early, but once again was told "8th February". Fair enough I thought, and waited until this morning, rang them up told them what phone I wanted and was told "Yes, we have them in stock, would you like me to send you one out?" to which I replied "I've heard you can now get an upgrade form an O2 shop, can I do that?", reply "Yes, of course". So off I toddled down to my local O2 store. They brought up my details and said "It doesn't look like your eligible for an upgrade, can you rind retentions and see what they say". I gave them a call, confident this could be resolved, only to be told that I wasn't due for an upgrade until 9th February!! I was fuming, but the guy in the shop was quality and told me he'd hold onto a K800i for me to nip in and pick up tomorrow.

Question is, why are the upgrade department finding it hard to work out when people are eligible for an upgrade!!!?
