How can a letter change anything legally? It can get lost in post or the recipient can throw it away.

I am just giving advice based on my experiences with this type of complaint as I work for a mobile phone company. Yes they can get lost or thrown out however the provider is able to check if it was sent out at all and if not then cannot tie you to a contract. Its something to check with them
  • The 8 month refers to the 6 months extension plus the 2 months that were probably left to run on the original contract before upgrading.

I had the same issue when I noticed I upgraded to a 24 month contract with 2 months still to run on my original deal giving me a 26 month contract. Hope this helps

    Right - OK - I can clarify.

The business rule is that if a customer on a 6-month "holding" sim-only plans wants to upgrade to an iPhone 4S then the remainder of the 6 month contract term is cancelled upon upgrade.

I was designed to offer a cheap stop-gap and also to keep customers with Orange.

Don't worry - you can upgrade to an iPhone 4S without any worry. If you get someone not "up to speed" on the phone, ask them to search "Guru" for iPhone sim only plans.

    Hope that helps.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

But why would anyone want tied to a 24 month 4S contract with the 5 due this year? That would just be rubbing salt into the wounds.

Further, the customers contract would effectively become 'SIM only' once the minimum term was reached, so there was no need for a six month lock in unless some additional benefit was provided, as to do this on a whim is simply dishonest.

The 6 month deal gave you more mins and lower cost, and the chance to upgrade to the 4S at anytime and renege on the remiander of your 6 months tie-in. A no-brainer if you're waiting for stock or want to hang on for a short while....

thanks for all the extra help guys.
I have not received a letter confirming a new 6 month contract. I did receive a letter however but that only said that my plan would change to £25 a month.

I have not heard back from them so I guess I will call again tomorrow and see what they come up with. I would happily upgrade to the 4 or 4s as I know that the plans for the 5 will be out of my price range to get a free phone. I can't afford to pay anything for the a new handset atm but my 3gs is on its way out so i need to do something!
