I totally agree that Private feedback is totally inappropriate given the importance that eBay places upon it, but there is a reason why it has to be available.

I have been in communication with CS in the past about a comment that I felt was inappropriate for a family website, but initially it was refused and I was simply advised to make my feedback private!
I was also told that some people prefer to keep their feedback hidden because of the nature of items they sell - medical aids, lngerie etc, to protect their customers, but if this was truly the case then why offer Private listings - comments appear on the member profile, but not the item number.

As a seller I would welcome the option to block bidders, or at least to have the option to see the feedback of anybody who is bidding on my items. Luckily I have only had a few privates bidding on items and I can still see their overall numbers. On two occasions there were a few recent negs so I politely messaged the bidders.

One emailed back with a screen shot of feedback comments threatening to burn his house down (They have subsequently been removed and the feedback is no longer hidden!!), the other told me to mind my own business.

Guess which one had their bid cancelled?!

The first guy explained that he had been sabotaged by a competitor and it took 2 months to get the situation resolved - but his willingness to talk about it convinced me that in extreme cases there is justifiication for private feedback, but if CS were a bit more co-operative then maybe feedback disputes could be rectified properly and Private feedback would be unneccesary.

im surprised they let people sell with private feedback for so long, they've only just abolished it

even when a buyer's feedback is private, you still see the summary info at the top. i am happy selling to a private feedback seller, as long as they pay. i have come across a few buyers with private feedback but 100% positives, and i think the reason for this is because they buy things off the website to resell at a higher price later on - they hide their feedback to avoid !!!!!!£d sellers!
