Bedroom condensation problem??

Hi,

I live in a 1900 build victorian mid terrace house and I have black mould appearing in one corner of the back bedroom...there is no mould whatsoever in any of the other rooms. The problem tends to get worse in winter and gets better in the summer.

The corner in which the two walls meet together are both outside walls and the room directly below is the kitchen..
I do have an extractor fan and also have a flue for the boiler....
the room next door to the bedroom is the bathroom and the window in there is always open and we have a fan in there...

I do generally open the windows in the morning daily and the heating is also turned on at night during the winter...I dry clothes in the house in the winter but could this be related if no other place in the house is forming mould??

A few years ago, I installed two airbricks as the builder at the time said it would help circulation but this has not helped at all.

Your expert help in curing this problem would be greatly appreciated...If any more info is required then please ask....

Are there any water pipes inside the wall?

Presumably a leaky pipe would be a perennial problem, and not improve in the summer?

Was thinking more of condensation around the pipe rather than leaking water. In the winter months, the water in the pipe would be colder as the temperature outside is cold. The large differential between the cold water temperature in the pipe and warm room may be causing the condensation.

No, there are no pipes inside the wall...The only pipes are on the external side of the builidng(the roof guttering)..

I would be investigating the outside wall at the corner, the flashing and the slates/tiles.

    Thanks for your help...

But what make you say that mate?...I always believed it was a condensation problem...I wake up in the morning and the window is full of water droplets???...none of the other rooms in the house have this happen to them.

A friend had black mould in a bedroom and became very ill as a result. Please be careful. The spores from some moulds are harmful. She tried a de-humidifier but of course this doesn't solve the root cause - some damp coming from somewhere.

Does anyone sleep in the other rooms? I say this because it could simply be your breath which is providing the moisture that is condensing on the window.
    Forgotten but not gone.

It could very well be condensation, but at an outside corner could just be the problem. Craked brick, loose slate, blocked/misaligned gutter, etc. It is at least a worth a look at least to note if there is any dampness on the outside wall or in the roof space.
  • I had similar black growth in the corner of my bedroom. Thought it was condensation as the room has an ensuite but turner out to be a leak from the roof. Haven't had a problem since the flashing was fixed.
