If I saw someone damage another car or property, I would definately take their details and act as witness. Also, as I have a conscience, if I hit something else I would stop and leave my details. Unfortunately the person who hit my parked car a couple of weeks ago didn't have a conscience and drove off without leaving their details after causing an estimated £1k of damage.

  • I would definitely stop at the scene. One day not so long ago I was driving along a street in my home town which had cars parked along my side so traffic going the other direction had right of way. There is plenty space for two vehicles to pass each other anyway. There was no other traffic coming at all and I was out passing all these vehicles (parked mostly along length of the street) when a taxi came winging in the other direction, too fast for the speed bumps (I would have hated to have been the passenger as they are fierce bumps!) and taking far more room than necessary. He forced me over the road and I clipped a wing mirror which damaged mine.

I parked up, collected my mirror, went and inspected theirs to find not a mark on it, but I still went knocking on doors to find the owner of the vehicle. He was amazed that I had done this especially as there was no damage but very grateful for my honestly all the same.

He didn't force you, it was your choice. If it ever happens again just stop dead, if he hits you it's his fault.

I think i would rather try to avoid him myself than enter into an insurance claim and car repair!!

  • Well done you for getting at least one set of details! I have returned to my car to find it damaged and its not fun.

Happened to a friend of mine when, ironicaly, he was at a garage looking at a new car. He came out of the showroom and a guy asked him if it was his car as someone had just hit it and driven off, but he had got the registration. Police involved who tracked the guy down. He claimed to have not realised that he had hit another car, but agreed to provide his details. Dissapointed that the police didnt pursue him for failing to leave his details though.
  • Forgot to add my friend was most greatful to the guy who took down the number plate as he would have been left with a £600 repair bill
