Well I had some stuff on their sale after Xmas last year and was quite pleased with them - for the price anyway - some nice novelties.

I don't agree! Debit cards offer the very least protection of any sort of payment.....not sure about Credit cards if the amount is under £100....sure there must be an article on this site about it somewhere.

So you do agree with me...
credit card only offer protection if its £100 and over.
In this case, visa debit is the best choice...
  • My kids (10 year old triplets) received a £15 voucher each for Hawkins Bazaar but our local store shut 30 Dec and so have any within a 35 radius. Not really worth spending the petrol money to travel to our nearest store which, by now, is probably full of rubbish. Worst thing is that I know someone that bought gift tokens on Xmas Eve which they won't be able to redeem - surely they shouldn't have been able to sell them (the management that is) as they must have known that they would only be trading for another day? Feel sorry for all the staff but think with more companies going under the way these situations are handled should be reviewed.

Can you use the vouchers online - that if they are still trading properly inline that is?

I know when that Christmas hamper firm went under a few yrs back they were taking money up to the very last minute.

Mind you I suppose they might still be tryign to keep going - so the news items say anyway - but with so many shops closing it might scare customers from ordering so it'll be self-fulfilling that they fold.

    Company Announcement

On 30 December 2011, Peter Saville, Fraser Gray and Anne O’Keefe of Zolfo Cooper LLP were appointed Joint Administrators of Tobar Group Holdings Limited and its subsidiaries (The Group).

Hawkin’s Bazaar customers in possession of gift vouchers may continue to exchange these for goods as normal in any of The Group’s stores.

Those customers seeking to make returns should look, wherever possible, to visit their local store where they will be permitted to exchange their goods. Cash refunds will not be provided.

Hi, My daughter left another job to go work for Hawkins a couple of months ago, she was never told it could be temporary. She later found out that it all depended on sales with only the top selling shops staying open, even though they had well exceeded their targets. The way the staff found out wasn't particularly nice - week before Christmas they had to phone up to check if they were staying open, they were told to work until the 30th and then shut up shop - and none of them were told it was going into administration. My DD only found out when I sent her a link from the newspaper earlier this week. It was as much a surprise to her and everyone else who worked at the store that it's gone into administration as the takings had been very good.
Looking into it the administrators are trying to sell of as much stock as possible, with a few shops staying open. The gift vouchers are still valid, but for anyone with problems they will only exchange good not refund.

  • I wouldn't worry too much yet, I ordered some stuff on December 4th before they went into Administration and they didnt arrive until the 16th so they don't seem to be quick on delivery!
