What happens at the end of a contract?
Options
OK this may be a bit of a silly question to some, but I have one month to go until the end of my first ever 12-month contract (with O2 via Mobileshop). I am searching around for a new 12 month deal, but wanted to ask - what happens when you reach the end of a contract? Does your phone stop dead? Do they sneak you onto some kind of continuous pay as you go/new contract? Do they ring you up? Do I have to ring them up to cancel the contract? HELP!!!

Be carefull of the cash back deals. WATCHDOG reported many companies not paying the cash and you get left with a very expensive contractNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

Like the previous post says ,be careful. You may want to find a cashback deal that accept photocopied bills.Problem sometimes can be that the original bill
may get lost in the post and I have read on here that when a replacement is sent,at a price,it may not be the exact replacement.
I have been lucky with my cashback deals so far and always go for the 12 month deals. These phones can be as good as new but can be called reconditioned.Hope you find what you are looking for and if you not aware try
and use the link from www.quidco.com for extra cashback.0 -
It may also be worth it to ring them up and say you wish to cancel as you have found a better tariff and phone - they will usually try to match that offer to keep you as a customer.
I have always had a match with O2 and had the phone I wanted without the hassle of switching providers. The smallest deed is greater than the grandest intention ~ Anonymous0 -
Thanks for your ideas, I've gone with a 12 month contract through e2save and yes, I did it through quidco :-) It's also a cheap tariff as I don't hammer my mobile much really! So even if it DOES fall through I will not be massively out of pocket.
Cheers!

My contract ends on the 14th.
I rang O2, asked for my PAC.
Got put through to the customer retention team.
Told them that I was offered 150 minutes for £15 a month on pay as you go.
They offered me 250 minutes and 100 text messages for £15 a month plus a £75 credit on my bill which equals 5 months for free.
They emailed me the offer and I have 14 days to change my mind.
(It's Tesco Mobile's Extra tariff I was quoting but I didn't mention Tesco at all.)0 -

Not bad I suppose.I guess they have stated its' a 12month contract. The E2 save deal with another phone can work out to just £53.50 after you factor in the Quidco and E2 save cashbacks. You can then
try to sell your phone at www.envirophone.com or similar.

I sent a letter to cancel my Vodafone deal, mainly because they could only offer me an 18 month contract. They phoned back a few days later. 12 month contract, new W850i, loads of minutes and texts... Funny what they can do if they want too.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works!
