"Daft question" about free sim cards!!

Hi all. As you will have guessed I am not techie minded! Could I just ask you all what the benefit of having free sim cards is? Do you get free talk time or free texts when you use them? I would love to know as I am obviously missing out on the finer points of life!!! Big thanks to all.

They sometimes include a smallish credit to spend on calls or texts,or they might give you free calls/texts if you top up by a certain amount each month,plus you dont pay for them,where as you might if you bought at retailer.

sim free usually means you can put any mobile network sim card in that phone,
free sim card means the sim card is free.
