Ouch...wasn't expected to get railroaded by a simple question. :(

No, it isn't for me - I AM at Uni but I won't be claiming anything due to my OH working and earning over the threshold by the time I graduate in summer.

I was asking on behalf of a friend at Uni who is due to graduate in 2 weeks time.

Student services are closed til Monday so she can't ask there, and as she lives in Halls where there's no landline she can't afford to call the Benefits Agency on her mobile.

I thought that my question was valid considering that she knows her end date for her course and when she will be classed as looking for work.

I wasn't aware that graduates automatically started a job and never claimed benefits. :p

Most undergraduate courses don't finish in February.

I believe most people thought, as I did, that you or a friend expected to be unemployed in 6 months' time.

    Hi,

Your friend can claim Jobseekers Allowance from the day after the Course officially ends. See link on how to claim:

Most graduates employed soon after leaving University are so because they looked before they graduated ;)

Quite a few graduate schemes start their recruitment and selection process a full year before your expected to graduate.
