Thanks for the pdf - will go through it at the weekend - got to get on with some work!
Although there is an alarm in the building I do not think it is connected to the phone as the controller is dead unlike one of my neighbours whose one always had a light on but did not use it for the 5 years they had lived there! Alarm suddenly activated itself after a power cut caused by a thunderbolt hitting nearby. Cost £100 + to get people out to 'disconect' it so I am not going anywhere near that.
The speed quoted is the fastest I ever have had - when I do speed checker at various time of the day it varies from 0.3 to 1.1 meg, why there should be so much fluctuation I have no idea.
The exchange checker says that FTTC is to come to our exchange by 1/3/2012 - hopefully some ISP's will get into it and boost our speed and it will also give us a more constant service!
Thanks for your help and will post how I get on :j0 -
Hiya
Followed you link and got this
'Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 512Kbps. However, due to the length of your line, an engineer visit may be required, who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 500Kbps; typically the line speed would range between 250Kbps and 1.5Mbps.
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 1Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 1Mbps and 3.5Mbps.
The actual stable line speed supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This speed may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.
On checking the exchange it says that FTTC is to be enabled on 1/3/2012 - I have sent a query to openreach asking if any of my line is above ground where there benefits are lost (have googled this and found that this would mean lose any benefits of the FTTC). Also will be interesting to see what providers will go in especially as have only talktalk and O2 at mo!
Im on Sky Broadband Connect the £17 per month! Maybe you can you Sky mates if they are going into the exchange after FTTC comes in - can I pm you the details of the exchange please?
Many thanks for your help :j
There lies the problem, you're on Connect which is a resold BT product,so Sky can't log into the exchange & carry out work unlike with an LLU service as you're effectivly using BT's equipment. If you PM me the detail's I'll ask the manager there if he can check.
Best bet as well would be to check on https://www.samknows.com & see what LLU services are available to you.0
