Advice On Buying A New Car ~ Too Good To Be True?

  • Mondeo are now out of production so you cannot order anything from the factory, and few unsold stock units are left at Ford's central compounds so check they can actually supply the car first.

The new one will be here soon.

GOOD GENERAL ADVICE UISNG ANY BROKER!
If using a broker for any car, use one where you are transacting direct with the main supplying brand dealer, not handing your deposit or balance to a third party (i.e. the broker). If you hand your money to anyone other than the main brand dealer, you are at their mercy and the dealer cannot help you if things go wrong as you are not their direct customer. Bear in mind a lot of people lost car deposits when a well known broker went 'bust' in December as it was one of the many who ask you to pay them, and not the dealer.

Also decide what you want the 'conditions of sale' to be. Some only offer cars where you are the 2nd owner on the logbook (and the logbook takes 3-6mths to be put into your name) but these issues aren't made clear until the last moment (or not at all unless you are aware enough to ask). We don't touch these types of deals as they can have insurance and other implications regarding ownership.

Don't always take sales splurges of 'brand new' to assume you'll be first owner- if they don't state clearly and shout it from the rooftops that you are first and only registered owner, it is most likely you won't be.

Questions to ask to work out value for money are:
    1) Am I first registered owner?
    2) if not, when was it registered and who to (it will have eaten into its warranty from the date it was first registered)
    3) When will the logbook be put in my name and sent to me?
    4) what model-year is the vehicle? (this will tell you the spec' and its likely month/year of build)
    5) Is it standard UK spec from a normal main UK dealer with the standard 3yr warranty from date of first registration?
    6) Was it ever destined for an overseas market? If so, what country? (cars built to hot country specifications like Cyprus, Malta etc can often have inadequate rustproofing for the UK spec' equivalent and our temperate climate, odd radio frequency settings, non-standard items and partial cover warranties etc

    Hope that helps.

If you pick up any auto magazine you'll see that Ford Mondeo depreciates heavily. So, if you keen on buying Mondeo only, if you buy just a year old car, you can often save as much as 40% of list price!
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.
