"Are you waiting to hear back from any previous interviews?"

  • I would say something along the lines of "It depends on whether I have been successful or not with you." They will then ask what that means, and just say that you are very keen on their position.

I rwork in HR for a medium sized company, and quite often particularly for specialised roles, we will get the same candidate's details submitted twice. No bother - the rule is to go with the agency who submitted the cv first, and tell any other agencies that they can't lay claim to that candidate because someone else beat them to it. Once or twice there is a bunfight between two agencies, usually it is simply a matter of confirming the date and time the applications hit my inbox and that's enough to resolve it. To the poster who thought he had the job in the bag, I'm sorry to say that the manager who interviewed you must have thought otherwise as he would not have accepted further cvs from the agency if you had been the ideal candidate. There must have been some element of doubt as to your suitability for the post, if you'd really been right for the role then he/she would not have been interested in seeing more CVs as recruitment can be very time consuming, not many people will spend more time on it then they have to. I don't think the agency were 'scum' for doing what they did, they saw an opportunity and took advantage of it, this is business, at the end of the day the agency is there to fill a role for the company (who after all are the source of the money that the agency will get). This is how agencies work - now you know that you can keep schtum in future!

Doesn't matter if you are put forward twice, companies deal with many agencies and will get duplicate CV's. An agency may say they will submit your CV to the client and then don't if they come up with better candidates for the role

    .

it matters enormously to me, it is about professional credibility.

There's no professional credibility on The Recruitment Agent if they state they will submit your CV to the employer and then don't . Also even worse still if you tell them about your outstanding interviews so that their purpose is to try and send their candidates for the role you sourced yourself.
