    Hello!
Never posted on this thread before - still in the process of trying to read through all of the 2011 ones!
New Years resolution this year is to start and finish making a patchwork quilt. Been hand sewing the whole thing so far because I don't have a sewing machine so my mum said she'd buy me a cheapish one :)
Can anyone recommend one? Or tell me which one I should go for out of these few?

    Brother LS2125 - £79
    Toyota Super Jeans - £149
    John Lewis JL110SE - £99

(won't let me post links as a new user, sorry!)

Thanks for your help in advance!

    Hayley :)

Hi I have the John Lewis one- was recommended to me by a friends mum who is a textiles teacher. I haven't done quilting with it but made lots of other things and I love it. Hope that helps x

  • 10 years ago when we first moved to our current house, we had no extra cash for pressies. So I made some sloe gin, bought some half sized wine bottles and made my own labels. Family and friends loved it. and it worked out less than a fiver for each bottle.

Another great home made pressie that went down well, was little clay plant pots filled with cuttings from my late grandmother's geranium plant. I painted a cute, kitsch design on each pot and gave each family member one. I recently went to visit my dad and noticed he still had it on display in his bathroom. It was lovely to see it still had personal value even after 15 or so years.
  • i try and make as much as i can for christmas sweets, food and gifts . fortunatly i only have 5 to make for , so i can really make something for everyone. i'm making a blanket at the moment , and i'm hoping to make a harry pottter wizard cape. but i'm not sure what else i'm making yet .

I made this for one of my daughters for Christmas. The photo is a bit out of focus I'm afraid. The windows and door were attached with zigzag stitching and then I zigzagged a cross on each window and some panels on the door, which you can't see on the photo. :( It is plain on the back and sides, but I have an order from my neighbour for one and she wants flowers up the sides as well as on the front.

It's a doorstop and this is the link to the instructions.

although mine came out taller and narrower than the one in the instructions. Don't know why as I followed the measurements exactly. I added the handle to make it easier to pick up and move if needed.

eta I forgot to say that the house was made from the bottom of one of daughter's curtains that I shortened, the roof was one of her husband's shirts and the windows & door were from an old quilt cover. I filled it with (new ;)) cat litter and stuffing from an old pillow. So all very MSE :)
