JVC TV not working - worth fixing?

My mother has a JVC LT32DE9BJ TV. It was becoming more and more temporamental and was taking ages to turn on and the freezing. As of today, she has to turn it off at the mains to chain channels!

It's 3.5 years old so we're wonder if it can be fixed and if it would be expensive to fix.

Any suggestions before we bin it?

If it's just the tuner, have you tried connecting a cheap Freeview box and using it with that instead (assuming you are in an area where Freeview is available)?

A 3½ year-old LCD TV should not be 'bin' material.

If the tuner is working OK, your descrption indicates a poor incoming signal from the terrestrial aerial.

Which transmitter does she receive from? Is she in an area that has undergone digital switchover - i.e. has the power of the transmitter been turned up to its maximum yet?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

We agree. A 3.5 year old TV shouldn't be binned.

The transmitter was updated in October and we have always had a weak signal. We have a booster though. However, the TV has gradually got worse with the picture freezing, turning itself off and restarting.

I did a reinstall of the software and it fixed the channel not changing but it's constantly requiring me to do this. Also, the recording function has gone too.

Anyway, she's about to move and I think the new place will pick up a different transmitter so we'll see then!
