Just having it accepted by the college isn't enough as you could find yourself having to spend a year retaking the full GCSE before being able to start university.
To add...having taught both, getting a GCSE grade C is much harder.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. It is equivalent to Grade C GCSE, however not all Universities will accept it and will insist on GCSE. What course are you intending on applying for?0

Right - I may not be PC in my post. This qualification is equivalent to that qualification etc simply, is not true, whatever the service provider states.
I have taught all levels, from entry to degree. A Key Skills level 2, in my opinion, is NOT equivalent to GCSE grade C. I don't care how the various awarding institutions 'dress' it up, it doesn't add up.
Fortunately, 'respected' FE/HE institutions also recognize that the so callled 'equivalents' actually don't equate, and so will not accept such.
IMO many colleges offering such 'qualifications' need investigating. They're giving false hope to people and that is downright wrong.

Yes definitely, if a student is told to study something as an alternative to an essential GCSE and then it won't be accepted in lieu it's a total waste of time and effort. It's hard because it's often not in the college's individual interest to give honest advice although they could always offer the GCSE!Sealed Pot Challenge #239

PGCE providers do not seem to be accepting these now: there were specific 'We no longer accept' notes on many of their course guide pages when I was researching my options."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." Whats worse than the providers that say it is equivalent, is the providers (the smaller ones in my experience) that seem to be able to get someone from entry 2 to a level 2 in ten weeks, either they are excellent beyond belief, or its a case of A, B (COUGH!), C or D?“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

Im going to uni in september, but for next years study i need grade c english or equivalent. The lady actually told me to ring learn direct. I did the assessment with them and they said im too good a level 2 to get funding or do the course but I can pay and just instantly do the level 2 test. My uni will take this0

I agree with you entirely and would include the Literacy/English qualifications in this as well.
Heaven knows that GCSE grade C doesn't represent a particularly high level of attainment, so the others are only really useful as a stepping stone to bigger things.
Happy New Year to you as well.0 -

Absolutely shocking.
