Getting into Manhatten from JFK

Airtrain is definitely the way to go coming in from JFK I've done it several times. (even used it once to hop into Manhattan for lunch when we had a five hour layover at JFK on the way to Vegas).
I disagree with a cab coming back to Newark though-it'll cost an arm and a leg .
If you're staying in the Times Square area (which I assume you are as you say "Broadway") I'd suggest getting a cab from your hotel to the Port Authority (end of W 42nd Street just past BB Kings) which will be a short ride and then take the airport shuttle bus. That'll have less luggage handling time than the train from Penn Station to Newark which would be my second choice. (Prices and details for both can be found on the Newark airport website). I wouldn't get a cab from Manhattan to Newark with less than four in the party as it is just too expensive.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Hi
Is the airtrain part of the subway system? I'm not very good underground. How much is the shuttle bus and do you have to book? We are arriving in NYC Penn Station and flying out of JFK a few days later in May 2012.

Well thnk i have found something else but before I book am going to run by you guys
I have found a kind of mini bus service, they call it a shuttle and the quote I have is
$41 for me and my daughter being picked up from JFK to our hotel which is the Paramount so 46th street
Then $44 to be picked up from hotel to Newark airport,is this too good to be true?
This sounds fantastic and my husband (as he isnt coming) said he likes sound of us getting picked up,think main reason is I am totally deaf and do struggle a bit though DD is pretty good and talks for me lol
So what do you reckon?

we went last june and cab was a fixed fare from JFK to Manhatten of $45
We were staying on 57th west near central park and when we went to leave the bell boy said he would get us a cab for $60,so i went outside and hailed a cab back to JFK for $45
We did look at the subway and it works out at $5 each to Jamica station and $2.75 to Manhatten
We were not overly impressed with the yellow cabs, the one from JFK to to the hotel was driven by someone from Hatai who could barely speak english and when asked did not seem to know much about which bridge we were crossing or what we were seeing outside, seemed more interested in talking on his mobile phone
On the return trip the driver was very reluctant to put the Aircon on in the cab and it was 84 deg outside,so he got no tip
Next time i will travel light and use the subway0 -
