    Update !! I was the original poster here.

    I was all set to buy Cloud 9, 11 mm underlay online but have another question first

    Today I was speaking to folk at a couple of local carpet shops. the first mentioned the same underlay and said it was £7 / m2 (wow, a lot more than the online price)

    The second though, who seemed remarkably honest, said that he would not use this, as it tends to compress down, so is niot the best for the carpet. When I asked about this, he was saying the shops etc push it, mainly because it is easier to handle due to it's weight. Suppliers offloading from a wagon, fitters carrying it into a house and anybody in between finds it much easier, which is why it is promoted so much.

    If I am going to buy online, is the Treadaire option maybe a better bet.

    thanks !

    I don't know.

    But why don't you just ignore all the advise and go your own way, (who sung that?) Ok, sarcastic comment possibly but intended to get your attention.

    Look seriously, all my life I have gone with this phylosophy which loosely reads;

    Effectively consider all facts and then make your own descision, that way you cannot blame anyone else, whatever happens
    I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

    Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

    Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Ive always got the cloud 9 from ebay, no shop has ever come close pricewise, its where all their profit is! gripper is the same, costs nothing online or at screwfix but fitters charge the earth. as for fitting it yourself, im a property developer, very handy DIYer and believe me, carpet fitting is a trade! id never employ a plumber, floor fitter, tiler etc but to get a carpet well fit, use the pros! dont use the guys from the shop, shops charge 2.50 pm2 of the carpet you BUY, not what you use!!!!! call the guys direct (numbers in your local paper), same people without shops taking a huge cut and can get it fit from £1.50pm2 upwards depending on total area (£1.50 for a lot of carpet fitted, obviously more if one small room or just stairs etc)
