Garages dont give free car washes/vacuum/valet/car collection etc etc

Of course they charge for it they dont do it for free.it might not say it on your invoice but collection/delivery of car will be built into the final bill

Beg to differ there sir, I bought my car (9 months old) from a main dealer 2.5 years ago, have never been there for a service, I use a smaller local garage at half the price

Part of the original deal which is still in force and on offer now is
'If you buy a car from us you get a 'free and easy' which is a free wash an vac for however long you own the car.'

I take advantage of it at least once a month. Its brilliant.
I can give you the name of the dealership if that still doesnt convince yo.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Only other thing I thought is if there was any kind of accident on the way or any damage or bumps or scratches would they admit it and would they put it right

After some insurance work our car was bought back with a badly curbed wheel rim, they didn't tell us but they did put it right after an earful from hubby.

    You get out for nowt.

The pricing will have been built into the cost of the new car, call it the garage overhead, in the hope that you will go their next time to replace it or have it serviced. Someone has to pay the car washer..

As you don't have it serviced and sound like you will shop around next time guess they will soon be out of business.;)

I just called them to double check but didnt tell them it is already booked in for tomorrow

I just asked the service lady how much it would be for this car to be serviced,, she asked for reg of car then told me £125 and that it will have oil filter and pollen done, doesnt sound a lot but thats what she said needs doing on a 2nd year polo. I then asked if they charge for collect and return and she said normally £10 so I told her I had been told yesterday that there was no charge for it and it is booked in for tomorrow. She checked the booking and said it does not say a charge so she said there wont be one then.
I don't think £10 is too bad really for having it collected and returned but seeing as they said there was no charge it should stay that way, now I'm just worried in case they will say there are things that need doing that really don't to get extra work

Also I was quoted by another vw garage for the same reg car service £155 (just owner drop off and collect) why would they charge more money for a 2nd year service for the same car, they are the same company. I asked the lady I just spoke to why they charged £125 and they charge £155 and she didn't know why as they should be the same price

    edit
Just rang the garage that quoted £155 and they now say £139 so its all over the place. Anyway hopefully it will go smoothly tomorrow

Oil, oil filter and pollen filter £30 tops plus labour say 30 minutes..... but dealers have to make money. They might do some other visible checks too.

My mother in law has just had hers done, at a "very nice" dealership apparently, £250 for a basic Corsa, did include a half price MOT (2nd) though;) and they collected it too, such nice men.

    Still on it's original tyres.

OP, they're not the same company and it doesn't surprise me. Most likely the first person on the phone at the other garage thought you sounded more naive than the second. If you told them the quote from the garage you're actually using they'd probably match it. And that wallbashing is aimed at grizzly's MIL not you!

If you are being charged the same price whether it's collected and delivered or you have to drop it off it's free surely. Some people on hear seem to think all business's are trying to rip off all their customers. Cannot all the cynics just accept that some garages offer a good level of service in order to encourage your business, nothing more.

Most likely the driver will leave a car at yours whilst the car is serviced but unless you specifically ask I doubt you will be insured to drive it.

Some garages yes, dealerships unlikely they are to driven by the bottom line, hence the generally higher cost in the first place to pay for it.

The last car I had serviced by a dealership(company car) was picked up by the Service Manager on his way to work. Used to save him 30 miles of petrol;)

I thought you had to use the manufacturer garage such as volkswagon for services in order to keep the warranty?
    Thanx
