Cheap car insurance for 17 year old. HELP!!!
Hi, my son is 17 years old and has recently passed his test. He has just bought a 51 reg Peugeot 206 1.1cc car and we are trying to find an insurance company who will insure him fully comprehensive in his own name. The cheapest I can find is £2,300 which is more than the price of the car and as he is paying it himself find this horrendous. Would very much appreciate any help in finding a much cheaper quote. Many thanks.x

When I first passed my test I got insurance with amb they were the cheapest I could find at £1800. Link http://www.ambinsurance.co.uk/ Direct line quoted me over £3000 this is for a 2004 fiat punto.:j Nothing is impossible the word itself says I'm possible-Audrey Hepburn0

Try Co-Op. He'll need to agree to have a black box fitted in the car though....
5t.What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
You will do well if you get any quotes for under £2000 for a 17 year old male these days on pretty much anything. Back in the day I used to find Admiral as cheap as anyone for young drivers.0

Why do you find it horrendous that the insurance is more than the value of the car? Insurance doesn't just cover your car, it covers the possibility of damage to other cars and people.
It cost me £1500 for first years insurance on a 1991 Fiesta and this was 5 years ago.0 -
try NFU, although as previously said, £2300 isnt really high for a 17 yr old. I paid £1500 for 3rd party on a G-reg micra worth £50 when i passed at 190

£2.300 for a 17year old is about right to be honest:(.
My son had a quote of £12000 we he was 17:rotfl:
Try E-car thats who my son has been insured with for some time now.
never had any problems with em.0 -
You can probably knock a few hundred quid off the £2,300 quote, but it's still going to be costly.
Add yourselves as parents to his policy as named drivers in case you need to drive the car in the future. It tends to bring it down a little.0 -
Multi car policies also help if thats an option, mine went from about £1300 thrid party to £600 fully comp when i went on my rents multicar policy. The car he has bought probably doesnt help alot, i found insurance cheaper on a more powerful and expensive 'old mans car' than a banger runabout/boy racer car dont know why?!?0

Just the norm these days. When I was 17 the first insurance I paid was £600 FComp for an astra, that was considered expensive back then.
Also remember the cost of fuel being £0.81 per litre, this has nearly doubled now.
You should of looked up insurance group 1 or 2 cars then choose a car from there, may of saved a few hundred pounds, bit late now tho.
Have you tried TPFT instead or TPO? I doubt he will claim on the Comprenhensive insurance if he was to have an accident as the costs of the high excess and loss of NCD and extra loading for the cover at renewal will make it uneconomical to claim, assuming he paid around £1000 for the car."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
If you want to reduce it by much more than a few hundred quid your only option will be to sell the peugeot and buy a different car on the basis of it giving him the lowest possible quote.
Check prices before you buy.0
