doesnt seem to matter what group your car is these days, its make and model that mostly important, cars less likely to be a statistic are cheaper, so think how many pugs are out there and how many are commonly involved in accidents/thefts, compared to say how many chrysler neons are out there and how many are involved in accidents/thefts will give a idea of how insurance is adjusted per car.
then theres the area (postcode) you live in, if your a cat d* area youll pay higher premiums anyway caompated to a cat A, D is pretty high risk * means insurers prefure a car bike caravan to be garaged at the property or have higher security like thatchem rated alarms not standard alarms and immobilisers.
then theres age, 17 newly passed, high risk, what can he do to reduce his premium?
pass plus or advanced driving course, experienced named driver (infrequent user) on his policy, security thathem rated alarm and immobiliser must be rated to have a curt to send off to insurers to prove its fitted, how much can it cost dependant on make model and fitting can it have a benefit of cheaper insurance, yes it could.
do not be tempted to "front" get cought out all manor of complications can arise.
do not modify the car from standard.0 -
^^^^ exactly right.
Sorry OP but your son is now a driver and your quotes are about average, like others have said there are a few things that can help to reduce it but you won't get it down to a couple hundred. Advanced driver courses, add named drivers etc can all help but you won't see massive savings until NCB are earnt or he gets over 21/25. Different car may also help I found moving away from the normal 17 year old lads car definitely helped. I could insure a 1.4 rover for a few hundred less than a 1.1 fiesta, whilst it may not have had the street cred I unlike my friends could afford to pay for the insurance and have petrol in it rather than something that looked great but sat on the drive!!
My first car cost me £200 and the insurance was £1700 TPFT and that was 10 years ago so not shocked at £2300.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

ended up with multicar at admiral which cost £3100 for an 18 year old male using an 05 Polo fully comp0 -
also one thing ive seen a trend in is that insurers are not lowering the premium based on high voluntary excess. i selected 0 excess on quoting then £1000 vol excess and the quote moved only by -£50 hardly worth it so i stick to 0 excess.0

I went with Axa.
On a £500 car, raising the excess from £200 to £1000 nearly halved mine.
Admitedly, that was only a difference of about £100, but I'd never claim anyway, all I could get at best would be £300 for the loss of ncd.
I don't think any insurer will ever make any consistent sense to me.0
