Where did you hear it has been postponed? Universal Credit (the overall cap) is not supposed to come in until September 2013 anyway.0 -
What area are you in? I might take a look on Rightmove as I wouldn't mind moving closer to the centre if rents dropped.
Westminster, still pretty expensive though about £325pw for a no frills 1 bed, that was over £350pw last year though. We got lucky a year ago getting our flat, it had been on the market for a whole week and hadnt gone. The LL was starting to panic lol so knocked it down to £325.
I'm hoping the trend continuesFaith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.0 -
Is that bloke in Maida Vale still getting his £2000 a week rent paid?0

He will until the anniversary of his claim. Then he will probably get some discretionary interim payment or they will find him a suitable council home. He has 8 kids so is probably a special case.
With eight kids he's definitely a 'special case'. A 'state-funded vasectomy or fend for yourself' would have been a better policy.0 -
Why does he need to live in Maida Vale?
I just do not see it.
It arises from an obsession with 'rights' and social values and all that other guff that came out of the Nu-Labour-In-10-Easy-Lessons book.
Expensive homes should be rented to people who can pay for them. In London this means city workers basically. We are often told how the 'City' is the powerhouse of the economy, well it should enable people to pay for their accommodation without subsidy then.0 -

He's a hypnotist. Maida Vale is the cultural centre of the world of hypnotism.
What is so ironic is the house that he is renting (and the taxpayer is currently paying £2k per week for) is a former council house bought under right to buy.0
