dodgy web purchase

Im looking for some advice on a possible dodgy web purchase made. I ordered an item on 8 december from a website which looked genuine. The item was yet to arrive so I googled the company and seems the items either never turn up or are counterfit when they do show up. I have tried to contact the company to cancel the order with no joy. I have now had contact from Parcel force advising they want to deliver the item. My concern however is if I do accept the item it will break in a couple of days..... what can I do????

Receive the item - check it out, if you decide you no longer want it you can return it within 7 days under the Distance Selling Regulations

If you think it's fake - if you contact the brand company and they may be able to help you tell if it is - then contact trading standards as well.

how much was it and how did you pay for it? You could accept it and then return it under distance selling regulations but I guess your concerned that you'll never see or hear anything from the company ever again and theres issues about posting and postage, its all a big hassle. It'll go back to them eventually if you refuse delivery but again you may find getting a refund difficult if they are indeed dodgy as you fear. If it was over 100 and you used a credit card you'd be in a better position and even if you used a debit card or it cost less you may still be able to get some help, but more details about the purchase would help you get better suggestions
  • Thanks Aldredd, worried not going to get my money back though.

Just to be pedantic - you have seven days to NOTIFY them that you intend to return the item under the DSR (Assuming it is not an exempt item, etc...)

  • Thanks Norfolk Jim, it cost £70 and was paid for by credit card. I have made enquires with my bank but they said I could only do something if the item didnt make a show in 30 days. On the basis parcel force have tried to deliver I assume they would not reimburse any costs. Have considered leaving it with Parcel force but they state on their website that the item could get discarded if not collected and then I havent got anything at all!

Yeah, was trying to be brief - plus if they already have a concern over the item, figured it shouldn't take that long to decide.

DSR would only apply if bought from a UK seller.

OP where did you buy from? Is it a UK seller? Or is it imported from abroad?

How about reject the order, allow x days for refund, and then if nothing happens, request a ChargeBack from your CC?
  • After checking the details of website after it seems it is a chinese site.

If I reject the order though will the credit card company frown upon this??? would have thought if they had 'tried' to deliver you wouldnt be able to claim back from c/card company????
