    I've been Money Tipped!

A few years ago I lost my top of the range phone (at that time) and didn't think I'd see it again, when we got home to report it lost there was a message on the home answer phone from the people who had found it saying they had handed it in at the police station.

I was given the finders details and sent them a voucher to say thanks. So there are good people around.

Somebody handed my purse in to the police station. It didn't have any cash in *tightwad* but it did have my cards etc in. I got a letter a few days later from the police saying it had been handed in. They must have cross referenced the name off my cards with the electoral roll or something. It's times like this I'm glad I have a very unusual surname! The person who handed it it didn't leave any details though so I couldn't thank them personally.

Also highlights the importance of having a contact name/address on your items!

Although I believe the vast majority of people are honest. I'm not so sure it's a good thing to have your address with your items, specifically your house keys.

If someone not so honest found your keys along with your address, they would have the means to just walk in anytime they like when you are out.

A contact phone number could get around this.

A wise comment. Though doesn't help that your address is on your driving licence

True. I would have thought this would affect women more than men (keeping all items in one handbag).

As a bloke, I keep my licence in my wallet and keys always in a different pocket. I would have to lose my trousers for everything to get lost in one go.

Shoot........as I typed the last sentence, my streaking days came back to me. My friends knew that.... me+alcohol+dare or lost bet= me streaking more times than I care to remember. I was lucky that my friends would watch my clothes (sometimes chasing me down the road on a particularly long streak with my clothes in hand). Being older and wiser now, I hope my trousers are safe now (although saying that, the last lost bet was two years ago when I bet England wouldn't beat Australia in a twenty/20 cricket game and ended with me running round the block naked).

  • I rarely lose anything, so the only vaguely serious occasion was my keys a few months ago. They turned up at the police station courtesy of some nice person. I had been all around town asking and only went to the police station as a last resort - I really didn'tt expect them to have gone that far.

Saying that, just a couple of days ago I handed a bag into a shop just as the owner ran up all distraught, and a few weeks ago I found a credit card locally - I unsuccessfully tried to find the name online, so spent about half an hour going house to house. Didn't find him so had to drop it off at the bank, although I had hoped that I would save him the whole issue of arranging a new card etc. Anyway, the point is that there are quite a few nice people out there (despite what the world can sometimes look like) and so it's only fair to do the same.
