Pushchairs vs travel systems vs strollers... Confused!

Well it's not what I've been told by various health professionals, and it's what I'll be sticking to for my baby. I appreciate that it worked for you, but I will listen to research and articles which have been published recently.
Obviously for reflux etc then maybe it's better but for the reasoning of "well it's easier for parents to lift out of car and onto pram" seems a bit silly to me.
Someone did post a few articles the other day about babies dying as a result of being in their car seats for long period of time, I will try and find them, but I can't for the life of me remember which thread they were in
Think it was something to do with the head rests wasnt it in very young babies? ie babys head not being fully supported by car seat head rests? I have read something simular too... as i say i was petrified of dd sleeping in car seat but she would projectile vomit if lied flat. I did ask and was told v.v rare, rarer than cot death, anyway, feel i am digressing from original thread now.0 -

Another vote for the Sola by Mamas & Papas. It has all the features I wanted, is suitable for all terrain and doesn't break the bank.0

IT's a very personal choice. I have a Silver Cross Sleepover on the linear chassis, it's a bit of a beast size-wise, its heavy, it doesn;t really fit in the car BUT I love it and have used it since DD was born and she is 2 and a half now and we still use it, she is still parent-facing (her choice) and it is great.
But most of my friends traded their travel systems for foldable forward-facing pushchairs at various points. I've tried those, but I don;t like them because I can;t talk to DD or hear what she is saying to me, plus there's no room for the chopping underneath.
You need to decide what you want. I wanted parent facing for as long as child could fit in it, plus only one handle, like a bar (I find two handles really uncomfortable) and I found it ver hard to find something.
Remember also that Mothercare has a limited range so you might need to look online and then source what you want.
Also, you can always have one thing to begin with and then change - they tend to hold their value fairly well. DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j

Hey. I also have a M&P sola. Couldn't be happier :-).
Fits in the boot of my fiat punto, a maxi cosi car seat can go on it if you like, it faces both ways, super cosy, super light, sexy as hell, really really well designed, none of this fabric hanging here there and everywhere! It's also really light. Seen newborns in it as well as children who are way way too old to be pushed in a pushchair LOL
Only down point if I could find one is that you can't really fold it one handed unless you're super dexterous."If you don't feel the bumps in the road, you're not really going anywhere "

Just to note, a) that is a carrycot and not a lie flat car seat... and b) that report is from 2004.
I'm not saying lie flat car seats are or are not safe, just saying you need to be fully aware of what you are reading and its relevance.
For example The Britax Baby Safe Sleeper scored 5 out of 5 for both front and side crashes and was awarded a best buyA big believer in karma, you get what you give :A
If you find my posts useful, "pay it forward" and help someone else out, that's how places like MSE can be so successful.0 -
We bought a 2nd hand Graco Quattro Tour travel system and it's been fab, when lo was newborn it was so easy to get her ready, pop her in the car seat and carry her out to the car, and just click the seat into the permanent base unit, and then whist still asleep just click it into the pram. She was very rarely in the car seat for over 2hrs.
If not using the car, the lie flat option was perfect for long walks around the park, and she was in the pushchair option as soon as she could sit unaided, and she loved watching the world go by.
It is big and heavy, so not ideal for public transport, or if you have to carry it up/down lots of stairs. We have a ford mondeo and it takes up most of the boot, but it's been perfect for our family. It also doesn't have adjustable height handles, but I'm 5'4 and OH is 6 foot and it's never been a problem, also the shopping baskets are huge.
We now have a lighter Chicco 0.6t pushchair for quick trips to Nursery or local shops - which again suits our lifestyle perfectly - just need to find a foot muff that fits it!!
Congrats to all the pg ladies:j baby lauren born 06/01/2011 + got married 02/07/2011 :j0 -

Ahh see I've never had a car seat which fits onto my pram, and i have never had any issues with it. Mine have usually just gone straight back to sleep.A lot of my friends went for travel systems for that reason (not waking baby) and most have ended up with strollers, i can't stand them personally but hey ho!
I have the same pram as Skintchick but with a different chasis and it is amazing, i miss it soooooo much!0 -
Thanks for all the lovely advice! I’ve now gone and tried loads out, and pushed them round shops etc, and just have a couple more questions….
So far, I’ve worked out that I want something light (for the stairs at Balham tube station), and is both forward and backward facing. I don’t want a carry cot (it’s just more ‘stuff’!). What I’m really not sure about though, is how much it’s going to annoy me if I have to take the pram apart before I put it in the car etc. The bugaboo bee for example, doesn’t need to be deconstructed at all, whereas the silver cross surf needs to have the seat taken off before it can be folded up. Is this something I’ll get used to, or something that’ll annoy me every time I go anywhere? (Particularly when it’s raining!) Also, the Mama’s and Papa’s ones all have to have the seat facing forwards before they can be collapsed – is that a pain having to reverse it every time for the first six months?
I’m planning on getting a baby carrier (not a sling – I’ll permanently be worrying that I haven’t tied it correctly), and the only brands I’m finding in any shops are the baby bjorn’s. I’m assuming there are other brands out there though – anybody have any recommendations?
Many thanks
