Just nipped in to get a few bits, it only came to £2.72. Opened my purse, checked I had enough in change, I had over £4 in 10p's mainly
, so I started to add them to the coin add section, but it just kept taking them, so I stopped and told the woman that I had already put around £4 in and it was still asking for more, she shrugged and said "What do you want me to do about it?" "Well, I know I have put at least £4 in and its still asking for another 42p!" I replied. "Well if you want to take the stuff you'd better give it more money!".
I put the extra 42p in and asked her if I could get the machine checked. She told me to go to customer services because there was nothing she could do. I went to customer services and it turns out there's nothing they can do either until the checkout is cashed up.... tomorrow!!:mad:
So I have to go all the way back to Morrisons tomorrow to ask them if the till cashed up with too much money, and only then can I get my money back.
I am a bit annoyed at this, I would have thought they could take the till offline and check it immediately, I know its only £2 max, but thats not the point. The staff could have been more helpful, they could have taken my name and number and rang me once the till had been cashed up instead of telling me to come back tomorrow.
Rant over.

You got served by an assistant who really couldn't give a shi'te about her job. Last time I shopped at Morrison, I used the self serve machine and my £20 note got stuck. The helpful young man took the machine offline and opened it. He could see my stuck note through the glass but wasn't able to open it, so he took me to Customer Services who gave me the correct change. The man without a signature.0

Not used the self-service tills in morrissons but the Tesco ones count down from the total as you put coins in.
So did the till start off asking for £2.72 and did the amount due reduce as you put the coins in?0 -

No, and I think Morrisons is the only one like that. When I use them in Asda it counts every coin and tells you immediately how much there is left to pay, it only tells you in Morrisons if you stop for any length of time.... so annoying.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs

How irritating, I quite often have a lot of change that I haven't counted and just drop it all in - I might start checking it more carefully in future!0

I appreciate what you say about it only being £2.00 or so,
I would have been annoyed too - not only because of the till's ability to recognise how much a customer is putting in but by the attitude of the assistant.
Very poor design of the tills, imho.
I would be inclined to write to whoever is in charge at Morrisons and complain about the fact that their self service tills rely on customers to count how much they are putting in and that the tills can't recognise when the amount due is reached.0 -
If I thought it would make a difference I would write, but from the attitude of the staff I fear the management can't be much better, they are the ones that employ these miserable twits

It's not just the staff who are twits. I was serving the other day as a relief operator and this woman's shopping comes to £12.77. She tried to do the old give £12 in pound coins trick thinking I wouldn't check it and just assume it was £13. I soon as a said 77p short she instantly give me another £1 that she had tucked in her hand.0

First, I'm amazed that you could fit £4 in mainly 10p pieces into your purse, but surely if you had counted your change to work out that you had £4 why then did you not separate off £2.70 odd to put into the machine instead of just feeding in £4?
Could you have not noticed that you had put too much in sooner? The pile of your coins in your hand would have diminished as you put them in and it would become apparent before you reached the full £4.
I'm not defending Morrisons' here - because if there is a mechanical error it should be sorted out on the spot in my view.0 -

I had £2.50 in my hand, which I had counted out prior to going to the checkout, looked in my purse and noticed that I still had many more 10p's.... don't ask me how I fit them in, I have no clue, yesterday I had about a tenners worth of change
anyway, I fed in the £2.50, then because it doesn't tell you how much there is left to pay, I got another 30p out, expecting it to catch up, it didn't, so I thought I must have counted wrong and put some more in, took me up to just under £4 ish (I am pretty sure of that) then when I stopped for over 30 seconds it said please insert cash and it had amount outstanding 42p and thats when I queried it. Yes I should have counted it all out beforehand, but I forgot that their silly machines don't count your money down like Asda and the likes and presumed I would see the amount reducing as the coins went in.
