You see, there is truth in the old saying:What goes around, comes around.
Nephew thought it was ok to drive off and not give someone else his insurance details but now its happened to him he wants them eh?0 -
This is probably a troll thread but it would be great if it were true; "Nephew receives Karma shock".0

My idiotic nephew was driving along a narrow street. A car which was parked on his left pulled out and hit his car damaging the offside front and rear doors and the sill. Nephew recognised the driver as a friend of his friend. The guy told nephew to come along tomorrow and he will give him the insurance details etc. Reason i call my nephew an idiot is that he should have taken the reg. no. of the car and some pictures of the scene.
Nephew goes to the guy's house the next day. The person denies his responsibility and says nephew drove into him and that he should pay for damages. He won't give him any insurance details or the whereabout of the car or the reg. no.
Nephew later finds out that the guy borrowed the car from a family friend and was driving uninsured.
My sister wants to know what can be done.
I told her that to inform the insurance company of what happened and accept the fact that she has to claim through her policy to repair her 1 year old car. It will be his word against hers. If the sill was not seriously damaged i would have recommended her to have it fixed herself.
Told her that the police will not do much without evidence.
Is there anything i have missed? Do you reckon the insurance company will make the effort and chase the other guy? I think they will go through the easy route and ask her to make a claim.
That was a bit presumptuous, if you don't mind me saying. A report to the police is always worth it in these circumstances. They have to start an investigation anyway. They will contact the driver and ask him to produce evidence of insurance, regardless who is at fault. As he was uninsured, there are contingencies available, which might cover the claim. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
She contacted the police today and they were not interested without witness or concrete evidenceProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems

I'm afraid I have to agree with you.
If the police went, the other party could deny all knowledge, say the nephew hit the car somewhere else, eg, that it was hit in asda's carpark, while the unknown insured owner had it parked up, and then the nephew had driven away.
They could even say he'd hit it doing a three point turn up the owners drive off the road if it had no insurance at all.
No witness, it would be a waste of their time to even go out to take a statement if he's denying it.0 -

We're not talking about court, we're talking about the law regarding road accidents.
If police receive a report that someone has failed to stop and exchange details after an accident, as required by law, they WILL investigate it.
If they seem reluctant, insist, and complain if necessary.
But without a reg number there may be little to go on.We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.
We belong to the Earth0
