The key in this is the finance side of it. Your allowed to cancel the finance agreement upto 14 days after you signed it, you could say your not happy with the terms of the finance agreement and therefore dont want to use finance. Then you could say as you cant get the finance you cant afford the sofa. Not sure on what happpens to your deposit though.
You can cancel the finance, but that doesn't cancel the purchase, just the finance - you still have to pay for the goods.

Yeh but in some cases purchase is only possible through finance. I know with the company i work for, if someone cancels their finance and doesnt pay the remainder we refund the full amount (obviously depends on retailer but thought something like this would be across the board). It would be largely unfair for someone to change their mind on a finance agreement (which your allowed to do) and then make them pay for the goods when they potentially couldnt afford to.

If no costs had been incurred, they'd probably be ok with it (but they you could probably just ask them and they would cancel it for you).

However - if the company have incurred costs ordering the goods etc then it's not surprising they wont want to be out of pocket.

Where I work, just because the customer has cancelled the finance doesn't mean they can automatically return the goods, because we can't do anything with a customers second hand product...
