Eon variable DD?

A suggestion for Eon, what about a monthly variable DD tariff, as because of this mild weather I am over £200 in credit after getting my latest bill, produced from correct readings.

And based on my current usage I will still be over £200 in credit at the April DD review.

Could I just cancel my DD for the next 3 months?:rotfl:

    To keep the discounts you need to keep the direct debit active. You could try asking to reduce it. When winter is over maybe in April if you request they will usually refund any credit you have then you would build the credit up again over summer to use next winter.

    We pay Eon monthly after submitting meter readings online.

    As we draw the pension, we are in all day and try to keep heating costs down, however this has been our highest winter payment of £142 for gas and electric. :(

    The DD tariff would probably be cheaper for us but prefer paying for energy as used, rather than estimated.

    And yet this has been our lowest gas usage, not cost, but in kWh, since we moved into this house 20 years ago. We are in all day as well, with the heating on from when we get up to when we go to our bed.

    We did a lot of top up insulating a few years ago.

    20 years ago we used 24,000 kWh of gas, last year 17,000 kWh. Same heating system, better insulation and going from heating on for a couple of hours in the morning and 6 hours at night to on all day since my wife retired a few years ago.

    In the winter we leave it on 24 hours a day but turn the thermostat down when we go to our bed.

    Last year it would come on in the middle of the night but this year I don't think it has ever come on during the night.

    The electricity usage has gone up because 20 years ago we had no computer now we have 2 on all day.

    Are you on a warm assist tariff if you are retired and receiving any benefits?

    We got an additional £120 as well as the £200 fuel allowance

    On checking last year's annual energy usage on my spreadsheet, we used 3704 electric units and 392 gas units (meter read in cu.ft), not sure of kwh reading. We only have gas boiler on for an hour in the morning, and 4 or 5 hours in the evenings. The remaining time we rely on an open flame gas fire in the living room as it seems extravagant heating the whole house during daytime hours.

    Our home is well insulated, roof, attic, cavity wall insulation, double glazing, however our boiler - a Baxi Solo -must be nearly 20 years old, and nowhere near as efficient as today's AA rated boilers.

    We also have one or two computers running during the day, also TV is on and off.

    Have too much in savings to qualify for benefits, also our son lives at home, obviously paying board, it all helps.

    Suppose we'll have to keep paying until/unless Energy Watch or a consumers' champion takes up the cause of rising energy costs.

    I'm retired but it doesn't mean I am going to sit at home all day.

    A couple of cruises a year soon eats into your savings.

    No point in having money in the bank and living miserably.

    If you were on the Eon saveonline11 tariff that works out at about £1000 with discounts so £90 a month DD.

    I am on the Eon warm assist tariff and for my usage I am paying £87 a month DD and that is too much as per my first post of being £200 in credit. Especially since it is such a mild winter. Windy! but mild.
  • I'm all for variable DDs as well.

    But you would need to make sure you gave a meter reading each month. What happens if you are on holiday when the bill is due?

    It is not the same as variable DDs from VirginMedia, for instance, they know what your bill is without any input from you, the customer.

    We're definitely not living miserably, have holidays, eat out, have a good car etc.

    Last year our energy bll came to just under £1200 inclusive on the tariff we are on.

    We input reading each month but if on holiday an estimated reading would be sent, and paid on our return.

    I'm all for saving money but feel uneasy about energy companies increasing DDs without input from me. Old fashioned, I suppose.

    Hi new2012,

    We do offer a Variable Direct Debit, but this is quarterly not monthly.

    You can still input your meter readings every month, but we will bill you quarterly and take the full amount of the bill from your bank account around 7 days after the bill is produced.

    You could also use the real time billing feature on our website, so you can log in enter your meter readings and request a bill.

    I would just say that you don't get the 8% discount for a Variable Direct Debit, but you do get a 3% discount.
