Faulty Kindle

Bought my husband a Kindle from Argos just before Christmas. He downloaded a couple of books on it then we went to Tenerife for Christmas. My husband packed the Kindle back in the box and Put it in his hand luggage. However when he switched it back on when we were on holiday, the screen was sort of split in half and there was a thick black line across the screen. Took it back to Argos as soon as we got home and they said it was obvious that pressure had been put on the screen. Definitely not the case! It is obvious to me it is faulty but they won't hear of it and they won't give me my money back or a replacement! I am fuming! Any advice??? Thanks!

Under the law, it's down to Argos to prove that it's not a fault with the Kindle and has been caused by damage. Although it does rather sound like that is what has happened.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Im sure all they will need to do is send it to a repair agent who will say the same thing... the screen has been cracked due to force/impact.⚠ 2014 - COUNTDOWN TO INDEPENDENCE ⚠0 -
Argos took the Kindle away to have a look at it but now they are saying they don't have a department that deals with repairing Kindles! I have googled this and it seems that it's fairly common for this to happen and people who bought from Amazon are getting them replaced straight away! Its like they won't even entertain the idea that it's faulty.0

Ring Amazon customer service. They were fantastic when DD had the same problem with a Kindle I bought from Tesco. They will talk you through what you need to do.
Good luck.Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times and I'll smash your face in.0 -

I recently read that many Kindle customers were faced with the same fault after taking the device onto an aeroplane
not sure if this is the case - but I do remember reading it fairly recently0 -
Buy from Amazon, not Argos. Amazon are great at dealing with problems should they arise."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I believe Amazon can authorise a straight exchange with Argos.
Mine died over Christmas (similar issue), OH took it back to Tesco from where it was purchased and Tesco refused to do anything saying he needed to contact Amazon who would arrange pick up and replacement. OH refused and reminded Tesco the contract was with them. Tesco refused to budge. In the end I called Amazon who confirmed that Tesco could simply exchange the faulty Kindle for a new one instore and all Tesco needed to do was to call Amazon's dedicated Kindle line and they would Authorise the exchange there and then. OH explained this to Tesco who did call the line and a replacement was handed over almost instantly.
Give Amazon a call, explain that Argos are being difficult over this and they should be able to explain how you can get Argos to do the exchange.0 -
You could also try another Argos, you may get a better answer. Worth speaking to the manager as well if necessary.0
