Cooker socket

Do I have to use a cooker socket to plug my gas cooker? In the past I have pluged the gas cooker into an ordinary socket in my cupboard. Somebody told me it should be plugged in the cooker socket for safety but surely the electric is only for the clock. I thought the cooker socket is manily for electric oven. Am I wrong? I do not like to plug it in the cooker socket as it is too near the cooker and the flex gets warm when I use the oven for a long time. Thanks

If your cooker only requires power for the ignitor/clock and it is supplied with a standard UK plug it is fine to plug it into a socket.
If the cooker is electric, then you do need to use a dedicated cooker switch that can handle larger currents up to 40A.If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
Plug it into the most suitable socket. It is only low power as Myser suggests and doesn't need to be plugged into your cooker socket.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

Thanks, you have both put my mind at rest, it is only for the ignitor/clock.0
