I don't think I would be paying him to do jobs - I would be more inclined to discourage him as tbh it does sound as though he is trying to soften you up - hence the request for money.
Is his wife aware of what he does for you, because I don't think I would be too happy about it all.
What a weasel! (And well done for sending him on his way - just be grateful he lives next door and not in your door)!0 -

This was always free when he owed me money, I suppose I'll have to start paying him now! But, I think he's got a damn cheek asking a second time, and telling me he doesn't want his wife to know.
He doesn't work, due to disability, but I can just see him dancing on the tables during a weekend away with the lads! The loan wasn't even for something crucial, it was for him to go out on the lash. Without his wife! It beggars belief, he has really made my day!
Has a disability so doesn't work, but he can take out your bin and does bits around the garden.
That doesn't sound like someone who should be living off the state with benefits.
If I lived next door to him, I'd make sure I have a burglar alarm fitted to my home due to being away from home a lot. I wouldn't trust him more than I could throw him."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -
Sounds like a real low life. Especially if he is fit enough to do gardening and odd jobs while claiming to be disabled. Anyway, you must know that you have absolutely no chance of ever seeing the money again. If you were silly enough to give it to him.
He sounds like the sort of person who needs to be "shopped". Either to his wife or to the AuthoritiesI can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

Paying him to do all the jobs, isn't a good idea. Wait and see if he still does them, as he might stop, now you have the money back and have told him he cannot borrow more.
If you need stuff doing round the garden get a reliable part time gardener in, up here it costs about £7 a lawn for cutting depending how big the lawn.0 -
What a cheek! Well done for standing your ground!Got Halifax Classic to reduce my interest rate by 5% woohoo - 10/06/08 Thanks MSE!

Thanks for all your positive responses. He came back yesterday and thanked me for not lending him the money! He said he'd been thinking about it a lot and came to the conclusion that it was a lot of money to waste. Oh, and he also 'reminded' me not to tell his wife. Poor woman, fancy living with someone like that.2013 NSD challenge 3/100

No way Tixy, he's a bit 'mentally challenged' shall we say. I don't think he'd know how to turn a computer on, let alone actually use one!2013 NSD challenge 3/100
