gromituk wrote:My verdict: subwoofer works well but, as I suspected from the photos, the small satellite speakers are quite poor - very boxy-sounding. Definitely worth £13 but if you can find an old pair of unamplified PC speakers to connect instead of the supplied satellite ones, it's likely to sound better. You could splash out on a pair of Apple Pro speakers on eBay, chop off the plug, bare the ends of the wires and attach to the speaker terminals on the subwoofer. A fairly pricey solution but they sound good and look marvellous.
So I'm not getting a slapping then?"Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -

Just wanted to say these are truly exceptional ! The two satellite speakers work well in conjunction to the subwoofer however if you turn the bass down to the minimum they sound very tinny. That said there's absolutely no point buying this system if you intend turning the bass off !
The three speakers work well and give a lovely warm rich sound. only tested them quickly in work but I would have been more than happy if I had spent £30+ on these.0 -
Received mine today and I cant complain. The satellite speakers are very good compared to the eBuyer one's I bought. Subwoofer is not so bass'y as the eBuyer one though,
Looks much better than the eBuyer one though, controls on the front, satellite speakers are seperate, not joined together liked the eBuyer ones.
I connected the satellite speakers to my small stereo which is connected to the LCD, and sounds pretty good.
So all in all, a good buy, thanks OP!:hello:

Don't spend five pounds to dry clean a shirt. Donate it to the charity shop instead. They'll clean it and put it on a hanger. Next morning buy it back for two pounds.0 -

Specs say: Power supply - internal
Can anyone please confirm these are self powered (with or without batteries? ) ie don't need to be plugged to the mains to work?0 -

These units come with a 'State of the art' air powered Electricity generating station cleverly embedded inside the main unit that powers the speakers, your computer and monitor and contibutes to half of the electricity consumed by the average houshold.:rotfl: :rotfl:
Seriously though,
It means that the transformer is internal. I.E. inside the sub.
The wording is a bit ambiguous though."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
Thanks , slightly off topic - I've got some perfectly good old Sony speakers but they have the bare wire connectors that attach with clips. Does anyone happen to have a source for converting to more common phono type connectors that doesn't require soldering? I've looked at Maplin but it's not clear looking at their phono connectors in the sealed packet whether they require soldering.0
