When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important!
:money:

A very happy new year to all :j Glad to see the thread was busy over the weekend, sounds like most of you had a quiet night. Hope you're feeling a bit more cheerful today, Pernie.

I had a bit of a New Years adventure - we took the motorbikes out of town for the first time and drove about 300 km in two days (I am very sore in strange places!) to and from Jinja, which is a lovely town on the source of the river Nile. There was a party at the hostel we stayed at - would have been good cheap fun except that there were some robberies and I lost some cash  Other than that it was a lovely weekend and Im quite happy to be home in one (rather dusty) piece!

Anyway, now broke broke brokity broke. Going to need some serious MSE power to get through the month without dipping into what I had put aside for savings.

Today:
  • Saw off guests who stayed last night - they'll be back next week
  • bike to work and back
  • withdraw rent money and pay
  • get receipt and submit to work
  • Meal plan like theres no tomorrow! Its so hard to avoid eating out here regularly but I really need to work on it... I'm thinking this may be a shakshuka and chili week.
  • file (very old!) expenses
  • go to market to buy cheap veg for week
  • liase with DVD man - he's burning us the entire human planet series, so hopefully nice cheap nights in!
  • check banking and revise budget to make up for lost cash :(

Happy monday everyone!

  • Morning all and thanks to NTBY for starting us off today. I'm sorry to hear of your cash being stolen. Not a good start to 2012 for you.

    So far today:
    • checked banking
    • checked for surveys
    • updated spending spreadsheet with DDs due out
    • fed and watered the chickens
    • Xmas goodies for breakfast ;)
    I will also:
    • do a meal plan for January (freezer inventory yesterday produced evidence of at least 5 weeks meals if not more!)
    • plan allotment beds for 2012 and write a shopping list
    • make bread
    • make cookies
    • cut out last of fabric for quilt - no time yesterday
    • encourage DH to start Ebaying some of his mountains of *stuff*
    • all meals and snacks from stores
    • have an NSD
I'm feeling positive for a frugal, DFW year. Let's hope those feelings continue :D

Hi all, rejoining yet again in an attempt to make 2012 the year I have money left at the end of the month rather than the other way round, not this month though, final month of zero maternity pay and £17 won't last me till 28th!

NTBY - do you have potatoes? Could you serve it on jacket pots? Sorry about the loss of cash :(

    My things for today:

Try and have a NSD, will be no 2 of 10 if I do.
Taking baba to play centre, £1.50 to get in but hubby should pay if I just loiter by the leaflets when we arrive ;) No tea/cake while I'm there.
Meal plan for the week, got plenty in so should be able to get through most of the week without buying anything.
    Checked banking - no change
Chase expenses cheque - nearly £100 so would be great if I had it asap really!
Send a friend a birthday card by 2nd class post
    Clean out hamster
Watch film from £1 Blockbuster subscription to ensure I get the most out of it that I can
Read through Slimming World book to get ideas for meal plan - starting tomorrow, eek!
Find out when next Ebay free listing weekend is, anyone know?

That's it I think, hope everyone has a good day x
