I find it ironic here in Manchester, that it is cheaper for me to get a train than a bus.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

Im in Aberdeen and shocked at the price increases!!!! They try and encourage you to use public transport more than cars but how can anyone want to choose that option if its goin to be expensive..im pretty sure FB up here changed their fares twice last year!!
and the whole £4.20 for a all day ticket BEFORE 9.30 ..then £3.70 thereafter is stupid..why can't hey have a fixed rate
Single fare for the maximum amount of stops is £2.30!5lb a Month Challenge 2012:j

Here in Stoke on Trent they're going up too. A "short hop" fare is going from £1.25 to £1.30 and a normal "first fare" is going up from £1.90 to £2. the multi operator ticket to use all local bus companies within the city Smart is also going up. I can understand smaller operators increasing their costs when they need to as they are hit harder by fuel costs etc, yet a huge company like First who benefit from the economies of scale put theirs up too. I take such exception to this. We seem to get the cast off buses from other areas of the Firstbus group, clapped out, smelly and a real displeasure to travel on. They do have a few newer vehicles but even they are starting to show their age. It's ironic that the government are trying to encourage use of public transport yet invest so little in it. On a local level, we have a park and ride scheme in place in Hanley, the city centre, yet the park and ride is 5 mins walk to the shops, you still have to come into the city centre to get to it, what is the point? We invest billions to stop banks collapsing but pocket money into sustainable public transport.
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -
It's the same thing in Leicester. What I find really annoying is that bus fares in London are a lot cheaper than other cities. In London, the single bus fare is £1.30 but to travel 1 mile in Leicester it's 1.40 (without calculating the latest increase) but 2.50 to travel to the end of the route.0

that's not surprising London is cheaper really.
It's £1.60 where I live0 -
here in glasgow first run both buses and trains they are a disgrace smelly old buses arrogant drivers virtually no evening weekend services very high fares they are the main operator in glasgow but never ran any bus services on xmas day or new years day
its time to go back to regulating the buses
give people a reliable and afordable bus service and they will use it not the excuse they call a bus service
ps i have been a bus /coach driver for over 25 yrsjust because you are paranoid doesnt mean to say they are not out to get you0 -
The bus fares are now so high that if me and my wife need to go into town its cheaper to order a taxi.0

They are getting bad. I live in Norfolk in a village about 6 miles from town but I have to pay for a ticket that goes all the way to the next town which is 20 miles away because you can't opt to just pay a fare to get to town. £5.70 for a daily ticket.
Going to check to see if the prices here have gone up.
Edit - gone up 10p which isn't too bad but they went up less than a year ago!
One piece of good news is they have added a service, previously on a Sat they changed it so the first bus from my village got to town at 915 which makes it hard for those who work in retail.....they have added a service that gets to town for 845!0 -
In Nottingham last year I lived a mile and a half from uni, it was cheaper for me to get a taxi there and back than pay for a day ticket.
Also, I studied First Group's accounts for a coursework for my accountancy degree, they are making HUGE profits so I don't know how they can justify the increase in Manchester...Started 30/08/2011Biggest Wins: GHD's, 5* Trip to London, VIP Trip to Isle of MTV Festival in Malta.
