Why not plug the phone into the PC and delete the app?

can you boot the phone into safe mode, then remove the troublesome app?
( re-boot the phone from the power menu, and hold down the menu key while it re-starts )

Can't find out how to do that, I've got a list button, a home button, and a back button (these).

Edit seem to have got it safe mode now.
