Hello and wish you all a very happy new year !! Anyway I need a little help here. My O/H just applied for a Natwest Select (their full current a/c) account online.
She has been with Natwest for almost 7 years now and had a step account all this while. Anyway she decided to apply online for this account as her a/c was recently changed to a basic account and due to this the cash withdrawal facility was limited to Natwest and Rbs group atm's.
Anyway applied for the account online and at the end of the application it said Good News you have been accepted for the account you applied for and gave her the option to choose cheque books, overdrafts etc.
Then it gave the option to open the account online itself and gave the new account number and sort code etc straight away, and also said the chequebook and new card will arrive within 10 days.
So my question here is that has been definitely accepted for the account ?? as it is not showing on her online banking yet !!Also will she be given the purple natwest debit card ? looking forward to all the advises !!

If she's had the acceptance notice then yes, as to the online banking bit it will take a little longer to update, or she would have to register the new account.0

I would tell your OH not to get to excited yet.
As a high number of account applications are refereed to AVU (Application Verification Unit) after acceptance and many subsequently get declined at this stage.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

I was exactly fearing this. The application even said that the new account will show up on online banking in sometime.
Guess there is nothing that we can do now but keep our fingers crossed. She even requested for the cheque book (even though I was a little skeptical about this)but declined the overdraft request.
Do you think this might affect the acceptance with the AVU ? Is there any thing else she can do being with natwest already for so long to positively affect the application ? Worried now to be honest !!0 -
Since you already know the account number , you could transfer £1 to the account using internet banking
The payment will be returned within seconds if the account is not yet active
presumably a new fully active account will not appear on internet banking until the next working day
If the account needs to be checked before activating , then the funds will be returned. If the account does not need further checks and is waiting to appear on internet banking when they next update then the funds are not likely to be returnedHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Tried doing that but says 'We have checked our records and such account does not exist'. Strange especially as it gave the account number and sort code even during the application !!0

So i guess it must have got referred even after giving the stupid 'congratulations' message and even the account number etc !! Ahh guess just Natwest for you !!0

When I opened my e-savings account, I got the account number and sort code at the end of the application, and it was on my online banking the next day. If you only did it today, it might not show up until tomorrow, or maybe Tuesday as its a bank holiday tomorrow. As she's already an existing customer, it sounds like it has all gone through, but as St Clair said, AVU could still intervene.Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0

She just tried to transfer £1 today morning to the new account, however natwest is not even accepting the new account number. So presumably the a/c is not open yet which leads me to believe St Clair was right, looks like the a/c has been referred to the AVU !! Ahhh well what a surprise !!0 -
Don't panic, today is a bank holiday, so things may not happen until tomorrow.0
