Hotpoint fridge freezer broken down, suggestions please

Happy newYear all,

I currently have a hotpoint fridge freezer whichI bought inCurrys in 2k6. I experienced a number of problems in the first year of recieving this product as the freezerkept freezing up (its frost free)and on oneoccassion thefridge stopped working.I think the seal around both doorshave never been right. Currys have called out Hotpoint twice.

Yesterday, the fridge hasnow stopped working, but the freezer is still in operation. My question is, am I looking at alot of money to get is fixed, or shall I justshop for a new fridge freezer?

The product cost me £300 at the time.I have never been happy with it.

any sugestions/views/ideas?????

Does the fridge compartment have a drain hole at the back? Have you tried unblocking it?

It could also be the fridge thermostat or thermocouple.

i also have a hotpoint frostfree fridge freezer. in the past i have had problems with fridge temp going up and freezer temp going down and vice versa, i have to turn it off to defrost it from time to time. hotpoint engineer told me to do this, it gets an ice build up behind the back panel.

    Surely that's a manufacturer's defect if it is a frost-free freezer?

Mine was doing the same, hotpoint too and had had it since 2006 as well trinidadone. I was told the same jhe and the defrosting took +-3days long. I had to do this a from time to time as iy was forcing me to. This got so bad that it had to be done about 2 times a week and then it just worked for few days and then stop.

I had to bid farewell to it before christmas.

it builds up behind the back panel not inside the cabinet a solid block of ice. not ideal but only way to get it working again!

thanks for the responses, I have a full freezer, so I might as well get through some of the food fist before turning off. I would never purchase a hotpoint fridgefreezer again

hello jhe, I have just checked my freezer tempretures over the last day or so, and notice the tempreture really seems to vary. I see you turn your hotpoint fridgefreezer off from time to time, when you turn it off how long do you usually have it off for?

also, have you ever experienced a small puddle of water infront of the fridge freezer from time to time?

hello Duvarayi, so sorry to hear your fridge freezer stopped working before christmas. Really concerned to learn you had a hot point fridge freezer, and you purchased the fridge freezer in the same year as mine, never again will i buy a hotpoint fridge freezer.

wow, concerned to also learn it took three days to defrost/fix the problem. what did you do without the fridge freezer during that time? what did you do with the food? how did you know when to turn it back on?

Sorry to but in trinidadone, I don't know if my answer will help.

It has to defrost totally and there will be water so put cloths on the floor. Take the shelves out and leave the door open. Give it 2-3 days maybe, that's what hotpoint engineer told me and I used to do anyway.
