I am a student and I am looking at buying an automatic car for less than 1000 pounds. I would like your advise in choosing a reliable auto first car. I cannot drive a manual. Thanks in advance

you can get lots of automatic cars for under a grand, but if you want advice we'd need more info other than it being an automatic and under a grand.

    2, 4, 5, 7 seats?
lots of miles or tootling about town
    etc
    etc

Volvo, Toyota and even Mazda are the brands you should look at. Their engines and gear boxes are known for lasting a long time.

Over 1400 automatic cars in autotrader for less than £1000.

V8 Range Rover, £600. Ideal for the snow and city driving. 12mpg and £130 to fill the tank maybe an issue?

    But cheap insurance.

Go onto autotrader, put in your postcode, how far you're willing to travel to find a car, "Max price £1000" and transmission "Automatic". Then any other criteria you may have. It will filter results to show you your options.
  • I'd be looking at Korean or Japanese small cars with proper auto boxes, maybe something a bit unfashionable, likely to have been owned by an older person.

asking a lot buying a modern auto under a grand as the gearbox ripped out on its own would be worth a few shillings in the replacement market
you really need to up the anti or risk buying a lemon

Where does the op say 'modern' then?

Don't be so down on the op for gods sake, they've asked us for help and thats what we're giving. Comments like yours are not doing so.
  • I would avoid French cars fitted with auto gearboxes such as Saxo, Peugeot 106 etc. They have a major issue with the gearbox and will cost a fortune if they fail.

    Fixed it for you.
