The short answer is, there isn't one. Too many other variables.
The slightly longer answer is what is your lifestyle, and what are you looking for in a dog, other than it being ok with kids? Large, small, active, couch potato, looks, etc.
If you use the search facility, you'll find similar threads have been posted before and you may find some ideas there. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Without any doubt I would recommend a cavalier kings charles, having worked as a VN and having one myself they wouldnt hurt a fly infact mines scared of flies!0

Its really about the individual dog and the way its raised and trained rather than the breed.
Dogs of the same breed do tend to share some personality and behaviour traits but they aren't clones! They're all unique.0 -
Take a look at a rescue centre, see if any dog catches your eye and consider what breed they are. It might help you to see what size/behaviour and characteristics you'd like even if you don't want to get a rescue?0

Whilst I agree all dogs are individuals there are still certain breeds I wouldnt trust with children

There isn't one.
It is the parent who will end up looking after the dog in every sense of this world so parents have to do a reasearch and decide what THEY are happy to sign up for.
No matter how kids assure they will walk the dog etc etc.. they will not - long term.
So make sure you pick a dog that YOU are happy with - to look after for several years.
When I was considering taking on a dog, my daughter really wanted a staff. Everyone around had a staff so she wanted a staff.
Sorry, I am not a staff dog person, each to their own - those dogs dop nothing for me.
I put my food down and said if we were to have a dog - it will be a GS.
Few years later, daughter moved out and I am the one with a dog - a dog that I personally wanted and I am looking after/happy to look after.
So think about what YOU are comfortable with.
Any dog can be great or horrible with kids, but you do nto want to take on a dog that needs 3 hours intensive exercise/work a day (aevery day - rain or shine) if you yourself are not an active person.
So first of all, see what dog will macth your lifestyle....0 -

I like labradors around young kids. You never hear of a labrador savaging a child.0

Personally, I've never heard of a bichon being aggressive with children and I trust mine completely around even tiny babies and toddlers, but it would be silly of me to then say that ALL bichons are great with children, its all about the individual dog and how its trained/treated.0
