Crunchy's Debt Deletion Diary

  • My Barclaycard statement is now online, and as promised during my angry phonecall to them after they reduced my credit limit (the event which sparked my LBM!) they have refunded a £12 overlimit charge, and not charged me any interest this month (saving me another £9-odd) - so nearly £20 saved :T

Decided that instead of paying off Aqua, I'm going to clear Barclaycard instead, and use it for day-to-day spending, and clear it every month - this frees up an extra £100 this month (my monthly spend budget) to chuck at Vanquis.

Of course it's ok - I'm currently annoying my customers cos I can't hear em properly due to Iron Maiden being too loud on the radio :rotfl:

Suppose I better turn it down (a little)

    So... where I'm at...

I last got paid on 23rd December, and had my LBM about a week or so later, when I found my Barclaycard credit limit had been cut

Anyways, I've made a few small payments to use up what was in the bank and money recieved for an old mobile, and I've now got the latest balances for most of my accounts (still waiting for paper statements on ALL bar Littlewoods - thank you for internet banking!)

So, balances as of today, 14/01/12 (payday 20/01/12)

    Vanquis......Visa.......49%..£2640.51 (overlimit £140.51)
    Capital One..MC.........26%..£ 822.80 (overlimit £22.80)
    Aqua.........MC.........35%..£ 277.93
    Barclaycard..Visa.......29%..£ 387.07
    Lloyds TSB...Visa.......29%..£ 280.47
    Littlewoods..Catalogue.. 0%..£4088.72 (£274.29 int added in Aug 12)
    TOTAL........................£8497.50

Expecting to be paid around £2200 (any extra is a bonus!).

    Monthly essentials:
    Rent:..........£270
Provident:.....£100 (can't overpay as shared with someone else)
Internet:......£ 10 (again shared with someone else)
    Mobile:........£ 40
    Sub total:.....£420

Monthly spends: (Using cleared Barclaycard then pay off in full next month)
    Food for work: £ 80
    Travel:........£ 15
    Treats:........£ 20
    Emergency:.....£ 35
    Sub total:.....£150 max

    Bill Payments: Total available £2200 - £420 = £1780
    Vanquis......469 (Remainder after everything else)
    Capital One..£70 (min + overlimit)
    Aqua.........£10 (min)
Barclaycard..£387 (cleared) (then use for monthly spend)
    Lloyds TSB...£280 (cleared)
    Littlewoods..£574 (min)

Any extra cash to go Vanquis's way :)

Obviously may need to be tweaked slightly depending on exactly how much I get paid, and depending on actual balance of TSB (both are 'about right' but might be slightly out).

Expecting similar pay and monthly expenditure next month, so hopefully should be able to pay close to £1k off Vanquis next month :D

hi crunchy! sounds like you are off to a very good start! with all your walks you will be well on your way to losing 2 stone in 2 months! love how you collect 'roadkill', i always feel a bit embarrassed to pick it up but that is so stupid! will make myself do so! where abouts are you wanting to go on holiday when you are debt free? i am doing the same and hoping to go to new zealand next feb :) i will need to book it and probably pay for the flight in full before i am debt free but my cc is interest free so i will pay it off as soon as i have made my last debt payment. it will be a lovely thought to come home from it and owe nothing as i always come back with the full cost still owing on my cc and all the extras i used it for whilst away :o

  • Hi Clippy! :hello:

Roadkill is just begging to be picked up - if you don't get it someone else will - and they'll just waste it :rotfl:

I'm planning to go to Singapore and Hong Kong. Was planning on booking it this month but then I had my LBM, and realised with all this overtime i could pay off my debts, then pay for my holiday in cash - just means delaying it for 6 months and going after the monsoon season instead of just before! Like you I'll probably need to book flights before I'm completely debt free, but most will be paid by then :)

  • Always wanted to go - my mum lived there when she was a kid (my grandad was posted there in the Army). Done lots of travelling around Europe and want to go further afield - Hong Kong seems a logical place to start :)

  • Finally got my TSB statement - £280.47 is m,y total balance - slightly less than I estimated, so gives me an extra £20 to fling at Vanquis :)
