Tmobile insanity

Hi,

What Tmobile told be surely cant be that difficult? Doesnt anyone know if it can be done easier..?

Phone A coming to the end of contract in 1 month - tmob

Phone B bought through tescos mobile, onto tmob's net work, just started new contract ( tmob directly dont have this phone but no problem it being on there network and its an official tesco deal )

I want to cancel phone A contract but retain the number. No prob just kill phone A's contract and get the number moved onver to phone B? easy.....NOPE.

I have to ask for the PAK code for phone A and then transfer to vodafone/02 or similars network onto PAYG ( presume it will also need some credit put on it ) Then once one on VF/02 network ask them for another PAK code and ring TMob to get the number transferred.

Isnt this just !!!!? it cannot be that hard!

Anyone got around this please? and yes I really want to keep the number.

CR

T-mobile and other companies can port numbers however they like... it's just that they won't.

A few years ago, I bought a new O2 SIM and wanted my Virgin number to be ported to it. The website said the SIM was "for new customers only" and porting in was not permitted. I called O2 and said that this breached Ofcom/Otelo guidelines and the person said that porting wouldn't be a problem -- just call when I have the SIM.

I phoned again and the request was refused. I had to call back several times, quoting Ofcom/Otelo assurances regarding porting. Eventually they agreed to port the number.

At the time, I also had another contract O2 SIM (with a month remaining until the end of the contracted period) and an old Pay Up Front For Life SIM on O2.

For some reason, O2 ported the Virgin number to the wrong O2 SIM. After a number of calls they tried to fix the problem... but ended up moving the new SIM to my old account. In other words, I had one O2 account with no SIMs associated, and one account with two SIMs and two phone numbers!

In doing that, they voided my cashback claim with the vendor as I needed to submit proof that the SIM had been left active on the original account for the first six months.

O2 then stopped returning my calls and the managers who were supposed to be looking in to the problem were never available.

After a few weeks, I called them daily insisting that they fix the problem. That didn't help, so I looked up the average cost to a business in handling a customer call (around £10 in wages, heating, computer equipment, energy, etc.) and kept a running total, informing them that "I estimate that my phone calls to you on your 0800 number have cost you around £200 so far. It would be cheaper to fix the problem than ignore me. I shall call you again in an hour, and every hour that your lines are open until you fix the problem."

They sent me a cheque for £200 (to compensate me for lost cashback), moved the old O2 SIM to it's original account and restored the original number "undoing" the porting process. They then ported the unused number to my new O2 SIM.

It took a lot of calls and was incredibly frustrating, but clearly mobile companies can port numbers as and when they please.

All you have to do is convince T-Mobile to help you. But I don't suppose there's much you can do if they refuse. I certainly wouldn't expect a company like T-Mobile to go to any effort for you.

Despite the problems I had with O2, and their initial refusal to return my phone calls, I have since had a number of SIMs with them (with no problems, thank goodness!), but I would NEVER trust T-Mobile (now the stupidly-named Everything Everywhere) with anything. I have never spoken to such rude, obnoxious staff (not just one person, but several). O2 were, at least, courteous.
