Three didn't close an account and now I'm being charged
Options
I took out a 30 day SIM only plan with Three a couple of months ago online for around £11 a month.
However, before the SIM card arrived, I found a better deal. I never opened the Three SIM card, phoned them, and cancelled within the 14 days grace period free of charge.
However, today I've received a bill from them for £11, and it also states I need to pay last months £11 urgently as it's still unpaid. I never received a bill last month, as far as I was concerned until today it was cancelled.
What I'm worried about is proving to them that they agreed to cancel it when I write / call them. I don't even remember the date which I phoned up to cancel.
What can I do?

Difficult to tell from your post, but did you cancel before receiving the sim?
If so, they may have had difficulty in associating your cancellation with the unknown number. Did you follow their sites t&c re cancellation and how to do it?
I have a little smile on my face as you should have done your checking for deals before wasting people's time and you might do your research first next time.

I ALWAYS follow up a phone call in writing if I'm doing something like cancelling. I definitely did when I cancelled my SIM only deal with 3 Mobile. I asked them to confirm receipt of my letter and they did. I kept the letter.

Keep talking to them, asking for someone senior to speak with and inistsing that you have no intention of paying.
I had a similar issue and after a few attempts, I got hold of a sensible manager who said ok, I can see you have not used the number at all, so on this occasion, we will cancel the contract and cancel any overdue charges.0
