Hi guys, I'm new to this but have done a lot of reading and research on water softener as I'm looking to buy one.
I have a 3 bed semi with two adults 1 bathroom and downstairs toilet.
I was very interested in the Harvey's water softener and found a company called east midlands water that were selling the Harvey's crown which is made by Harvey's but put in a crown box, anyway whilst on the phone to them they suggested that I was to go for a single tank rather than a twin tank, the model number was EMS10 blue metered softener as it would use less salt and regen a lot lees than the Harvey's due to having a 2500 litres capacity.
Comparing this water softener it dose seem very good my only issue I have is I can not find any reviews or people that have had them installed.
Your thoughts would be much appreciated as I'm finding it hard to pick one

Don't know this machine I'm afraid -possibly it's made for East Midlands Water, but I'm not sure. It may be made by the US General Electric company according to the instruction manual, which might be a good sign, subject to parts availability.

The 10 year warranty looks good, provided that there are no servicing requirements to be met, but that is rather built into quite a high £1000 (almost) price. Perhaps someone else on the forum knows the machine?

    Hi, Don N
You seem spot on with the softener being made for East Midlands water I was thinking the same thing as the part number for the softener seems to be one for East Midlands.
The 10 year warranty and parts dose look good thanks for advice about possible servicing requirements I will phone them up and ask the question.
Do you think that it seems a lot of money ( £1000 ) for this type of water softener?
The reason why I am drawn to this machine as it looks hard to beat by the amount of salt it uses and the amount of water it uses.
They state it uses 52 ltrs of water per regen and 0.68kg's of salt for 2500 ltr capacity of water @ 300ppm. With those figures I'm struggling to find a machine that can match this.
  • The new 3 way taps are designed particularly for utilizing with undersink water filtration system. It can be used instead of the split tap actually supplied with domestic systems. With these 3 way taps, there is no need for you to cut an outlet into your work top with the intention to fit the split tap.

Harvey's have started to sell a single tank water softener designed for Spanish market.

You have to keep the factory making stuff in recessions..... even if it means making different products for different markets.

Or - you start laying people off....

    Hey

I was in the same position as you and needed a water softener while moving into my new home in London.

I talked to a lot of my neighbors and was referred to this person called Janet from ecowater.co.uk

I got in touch with her and she helped me buy a water softener that was suited for my needs.

You should get in touch with her!

Talk to Ecowater, certainly. But then buy the equivalent Tapworks machine, because they're made by Ecowater, they're more or less the same, but they're sold at less than half the price. :)

I have done some reading up about the taps work vs the ecowater, yes they are both made by ecoworks but apparently the taps works has cheaper components in and also the ecowater uses less salt and water to regen as the taps work is 2266 litre capacity of soften water ( AD11) and the ecowater (ESM11) has a 2400 litre capacity. Hope this helps.

I have spoken to one of their technical people about the differences, and have been assured that the functional components are identical, with one exception.

That exception is the programmer, which is more sophisticated on the Ecowater models.

Whether you consider that difference to be worth paying getting on for three times the price for (around £1200, as against around £430) I leave you to decide. Put it this way - I switched from Ecowater to Tapworks to save £770 and I'm as happy with the Tapworks model as I was with the Ecowater one.
