Hi ihshaikh.
You should be safe with any of those mentioned as far as I can see.. I'm not well up on the Tapworks model but only heard good things about it.
Just make sure the Coral comes with either an Autotrol Logix or 255 control valve..

Good Evening,
I was wondering if anybody got experience from this company ewt technologies. I am particularly interested by their metered unit.
Thanks0 -
I can't offer any feedback on the EWT softeners but I have just in the last week fitted a metered softener supplied by Water2Buy via their Ebay store.... at just £315 it is very well priced...
Here is a link to the softener I bought (obviously ignore the pricing on their website)... http://www.water2buy.co.uk/water-softeners-10/aquasmart-mezzo-water-softeners-19/
It's still earlier days but it was fairly easy to fit and we have soft water coming through. This unit replaces the ten year old Waterside MC250 timer unit that we inherited in our home.
I do have a couple of very minor niggles and am waiting to hear from Water2Buy but overall I am very happy with this £300 purchase. If you want to ask any other questions then please fire away.
By the way.... I've found Wickes are selling 25kg bags of salt tablets.... this is a very good price judging by what I have paid in the past.0 -

Wow £7.99 is a fairly decent price.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. We have a local plumbers merchants that does them for £7.49 25kg bag and Ive now found another even more local independant coal merchant/fixes garden machinery who does them for £7.00. If you can find any small local businesses too, you may be plesently surprised.0

Matt.
Went for the Coral 10LTR Water Softerner and getting this fitted today. Question I have is how much salt do I need to put in?
They have supplied me with 2 x 4KG of Block Salt.
Its been 12 hrs since the water softener has been installed - checked the water hardness and it remains unchanged. I have just triggered the manual regeneration process. Anything else that I may be overlooking?0 -
Can anyone tell me is the hardness level a linear scale or does it work in a more complicated fashion.
The reason I ask is that we have moved house and according to the previous water authority we were 284 mg / l CaCO3. The new property is 487 mg / l. I knew the water was hardish at the old house but lived with it and occasional descaling of showers & kettles.
The question is does the big increase mean that the new house is much worse hardness wise or just a little bit worse. I've had a quote of £1480  for a Minimax M2 softener, which seems a bit steep to possibly solve a small issue
Any advice much appreciated0 -
So I too have just trawled my way through this thread - many thanks to all who have posted. I agree with Moonraker simple = less to go wrong.
My research means it seems apart from the double-glazing players Harveys, Kinetico etc
Most of the softeners are now being made in the UK by a company called Four Winds (domestic side of European Water Company), who distribute to everyone who seems to badge them based on the cabinet name or the name of a county, or coral, mistral, swan. Slightly confusing but got my head around it.
What I have discovered is the classic valve is European Water Care's own they obviously used to make domestic softners and sell them direct as per Spirits post in 2010 not the case now Four winds do. This valve however is based on the Fleck 5600 just is basically ugly for want of a better word.
They also have options for metered or timed and different sizes.
However the Coral 10l is Four Winds digital autotrol valve that Matt thinks is good.
Price difference is quite a lot best I can find is
Reckon this is the classic one at
289 with 22 installation kit
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Timer-Controlled-Water-Softener-Up-4-People-/160793617568?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Kitchen_Ovens_Hobs_Cookers&hash=item25700be4a0
Coral 10l digital
344 without - 404 with kit
http://www.fountainsofteners.co.uk/coral-10-litre-watersave.htm
Also came across this which is good value using an autotrol but quite bulky
http://www.eastmidlandswater.com/Details.asp?ProductID=999
Finally the aquasmart range on ebay but water2buy seem to be good value but when I rang it appears their valves are marianna???? Never heard of it.
Matt it also seems fairly impossible to find a domestic softener with a clack valve apparently popular in Ireland
So I suppose the question is given that the classic valve uses the fleck 5600 - would Matt champion using it or plump the extra £100 for the digital watersaving version?
Who knew you could get a degree in water softeners0 -
Hello all, had a trawl through some of the thread, and have settled on the tapworks ad11 - we are a 5 bed 3 bath house with 2 adults and 1 baby (to come!), so I think this will be enough?
Just wondering, there have been recommendations on valves - do these come included with the unit or are these purchased separately?
Also, before we buy, any other recommendations on water softeners suitable for this household? We got rid of the kids. The cat was allergic.
Debt at LBM (Sep 07): £13,500. Current debt: [STRIKE]£680[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£480[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£560[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£13[/STRIKE] £0 overdraft

The valves discussed are part of the softener, though there are diferent valves needed as part of the installation into the mains.
I've had an Ecowater softener in daily use for nearly 17 years now, and it's never even been serviced. Tapworks are part of the same company, and I strongly suspect that the AD11 is a rebadged Ecowater ESM11.
If it is, then it's a bargain and should give you very good service. Might be worth checking what the differences are, though, to see if they're just cosmetic. I (and doubtless others here) would be interested to hear the result.0
