Fasthosts took my money

When was the site set to renew? I'm guessing it was on the 31st December? so when you told it not to auto renew it was before that date.
So what they're telling you is the renew / disable date but not the date you actually told it to disable?
there should / might be some logs within your control panel that shows what you've done at what time and date. Be worth having a poke about0 -
I would tell them that it was a few months ago, just saying that it was before that date sounds a little obstinate to me.
After you switched off auto renew & logged off did you check that it had taken the next time you logged on?0 -
Thanks for the replies.
I have had a reply:

Dear XXX,
Our development team have checked through the logs associated with your account.
The logs confirm the domain XXX.com was not set to expire before 08/12/2011.
The domain was set to expire on 31/12/2011.
I'm sorry but the payment taken to renew the above domain has been passed to the relevant third party and cannot be refunded.
Kind Regards
Grant

Hi
Thanks for your reply. I am disappointed that we have not been able to reach an amicable solution.
I stand by my statement and will be submitting a chargeback claim via my bank for a clerical error on your part that has resulted in monies being taken that are not lawfully due.
Bye

I used my Nationwide Visa debit card. Does anyone know the address to write to?

Had a reply this morning:

Dear XXX,
Our logs show you have failed to set the domain to expire prior to 08/12/2011.
If you raise a chargeback, we will dispute it, which could result in further charges being incurred by yourself.
Kind Regards
Grant

I am VERY sure the claim by Fasthosts that I will be charged in the event of dispute is false. Does anyone know for sure?SECRET OF SUCCESS IN LIFE:

From Fasthosts General T&C's6. Chargebacks
6.1 If You withdraw any payments made via a bank, credit card or PayPal account (a "chargeback") You may be subject to a administration fee of £50, should Fasthosts deem the chargeback to be unfair. Fasthosts also reserves its right to defend such chargebacks and recover the original monies from You or the card issuer.
6.2 If a chargeback is made, Fasthosts reserves the right to interrupt, suspend or cancel the Services. Such interruption, suspension or cancellation does not relieve You from paying the original Prices which are overdue and payable to Fasthosts.“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. I emailed them to ask about auto-renewal emails/logs this is what they say:Response Via Email (Joyce Bertulfo - Technical Support)12/01/2012 09.54 AM
Dear XXX,
Thanks for contacting us with your support enquiry.
I am afraid but we don't send email confirmation once you turn off domains auto renewal on the control panel. The only way to check it is through the control panel.
Thanks again for contacting us.

Don't worry people I have it covered. Plan is to
1. Show print and ask for refund.
2. If no, then cancel current domain. (Stop blackmail as justified in terms and conditions- devil is in the detail)
3. Request chargeback.
Let you know what happens

To avoid this in future, don't allow recurring authorities to be placed on your debit card. Use DD, which you control, and you cancel-not the payee. You also have the DD guarantee in place should thngs go wrong,No free lunch, and no free laptop0
