I'm fairly impressed with Hermes today. Haven't had a delivery from them before, but got an email at about 9:30 this morning from Home Bargains saying that my parcel had been dispatched and would be delivered by Hermes. I figured it would take a few days for them to get it through their network, but it was here by 2pm.
Unfortunately, despite having been in all day, they left a "sorry you weren't home" card, but thankfully they had left the parcel next door as instructed :)

Time to check the doorbell is working :)

Well, it was working an hour ago, so I assume it was working at the time. However it's not the loudest of doorbells, and I do have two kids under the age of two, so it's possible that it was too noisy to hear :)

Finally someone with some sense.I wish I had a pound for all the people who "were in all day, you didn't knock or ring the bell" I'd have well, lots of pounds.
They conjure up images of people in front of their window, sat on a bucket in case they need the loo, with an intravenous drip of water, never leaving to make a snack, TV off, staring, staring down their path so they don't miss their delivery.

Glad it is not just me who have had problems. They left no slip so it is like they just pretended to come up. I was out on the first attempt (Missed them by 30minutes) so that is why I made sure I was up early the following day. Also had no telly on and the door bell works well :) just annoyed on this occasion it appears they are mis-leading, so I am now on my final attempt before it gets sent back to the retailer. :( Hopefully they will try tuesday when my other half is in, otherwise the rest of the week we are all at work/school etc.

Credit where it's due Honeydog, Hermes were on top of things this year.
The Media reported Royal Mail and Yodel had that sort of backlog.

There are situations where people do watch that carefully, and still get phantom deliveries, where delivery companies claimed that they attempted delivery, and they did not. I had an item coming by CityLink, and read reviews online. Seeing that these phantom deliveries were a major problem, I left the front door open, put up a notice by it, and only left the front room to go to the toilet etc. if someone else was watching the door.

Still we found that the company's website updated the status to "delivery attempted (carded)" (or similar words) and there was no card there.

This is a major problem which couriers and courier companies seem to want to ignore.

Agreed with you. I had no tv or music on to make sure I heard the door bell. Also checked outside everytime I heard a car door shut. Still on their website they updated that they had tried (however no card left). Just checked this morning and it says they are out for delivery again, so once again no tv on and will wait patiently.

because, most of the trime the 'answer' would be more sataff/less packges per driver
  • I have to say i have never had a issue with Hermes, All the drivers are self employed so i would say depends on your area and driver on service.
My driver is spot on i always get parcels between 830-10. To be honest i would rather use a company that uses Hermes then uses that useless company called Yodel!!

I had a delivery by Hermes last week on behalf of MandM clothing.

They left it 2 feet from my front door in my open porch, I was in all day and they did not bother to knock.

I found it in a puddle where the rain had blown in at 3pm and it apparently had been left at 10am.

I called MandM to state I'm not accepting what could be soiled goods. They told me they'd get a courier to pick it up and refund me. When I asked if it would be Hermes collecting they replied 'not a chance, we use another company' :D .
